Well, I just finished installing Windows XP on my computer. It did not go nice and smooth. I ended up reformatting my hard drive and starting from scratch. I know Windows XP sure does not like AOL 6.0. I am in the process of downloading AOL 7.0. I am still installing all my old software. Yes Windows XP locked up on me many times today and last night. Well, I guess I just would like to know how every one else is doing with Windows XP.

4 Times I rode out Windows ME - I finally believed the automatic upgrades while on line were the death
nail. Works fine for awhile, but before long
you are wishing for Windows 98 again...

It is a lot faster!Given the body of your post, one has to wonder: "Faster at what?!"
Well, like I said it did not load/install very well for me. However, now it seems to be working pretty good. It is really fast and it looks great. I have never not had problems with computers and software. In a way, that is part of the fun with computers and software - messing around, making things better and faster and trying new things. Yeah, it sucks when you need your computer and software to do something and it doesn't work; such is life.

How is it that people that DON'T sell .net aren't biased? Are they selling a competing product? Is there expertise in another product? If so they are biased. So for anyone to review any technology they are biased, unless they are an uninformed user and then what value can they add except to tell other uninformed (ignorant) users how their experience went?
So which is it? Do these guys have a stake in other technologies? Or are they just ignorant?

C'mon, 2 hours was just an expression. It was clarified later. Do you work for Microsoft, also? If so, you might look up some of your fellow employees who tell us that THEY won't be using XP on their home machines.

Was very difficult to install. It would not simply update my Windows ME.
What kind of problems did you have.. I am getting a new computer soon with win me and a coupon for XP. Should I bother with the coupon?

Wait, I know no one who sells .NET. It just looks like a great advance if MS doesn't do proprietary extensions to XML. I was trying to establish that I am not anti-MS. Just anti-security holes, anti-copy protection, etc.

If Microsoft made baby cribs, Bill Gates would be serving consecutive life sentences for the number of defective products that his company has sold.
Actually one of Murphy's laws states something similar: "If engineers built buildings the way programmers wrote programs, civilization would be decimated by the first woodpecker."
Fact of the matter is this: the marketplace tolerates programming errors. The marketplace willingly gave Bill Gates his fortune.

I don't know of any MS people who don't run XP at home; however, I do know some linux guys that run XP and 98 because they like to play games.

Don't install XP. It is the most invasive SW yet from Big Brother Bill. It will track EVERYTHING you do on and off the net and report it all back to Redmond everytime you log on to the internet (not just to Micosoft.com) and just for giggles malacious hackers will be able to take over your machine and/or identity (credit cards, SSN#) like never before.

As an IT/Network support guy, I was in awe of his work he did running that kid down, and getting his site back up and functioning. Did you read my link in #67?
If you have anything about him being full of BS, I'd sure like to read it.

LOL. That's some good sarcasm.

I am going to hate XP if it makes everything I type come out huge and bold, or **************************surrounded by asterisks**************************
OTOH, what difference does it make what operating system you use if you have the AOL leviathan installed on it ?

I didn't say this was my opinion, just that I recieved it in the mail from someone I know and trust and was posting it here for people to take it or leave it. I didn't write it. Attack the points made, not the person who posted it.

Well, your point, that I agree with, is made. I am not here to tout Linux. But I DO know people in Redmond who program for MS who say (I haven't checked their machines) that they won't run XP. All I can do is report.
This whole thing started when the sycophant called a true genius a moron for something that wasn't even said, and PO'd me.

Next time try a real system, called MAC OS X. Works fine!

I'll never use XP or any MS software that requires product activation. That's certainly your right to avoid any product you want to, but consider that WPA and .NET are the wave of the future. Perhaps at some point you'll have to explain why you didn't watch the 3D Olympics in HDTV on your P8 machine last night, and you can mention that you're still proudly running Win2K. Perhaps others will gasp and ask how you can do without the teleportation features of Word or the Augurizer in Excel2020. ;)
