I wonder if Senator Helms might spill some facts about her after he steps down. Facts such as: Is that the same pant suit or does she have several, all the same color and cut? I doubt it. Jesse is too much the gentleman to do something like that. Edwards, on the other hand, might leak something, especially if it would help him, and hurt her politically.
Has Liddy Dole made any official announcement about running for Jesse's seat? The only thing I have heard is that she is changing her voter registration back to North Carolina. I was hoping Richard Burr would run for that seat, but believe he is going to make a run for governor in '04.

Ok, I was just a victim of the new system ..... have been sitting over there on the last batch hitting the Refresh button and wondering if you were ok because you weren't replying ..... I just noticed that my last post was #200 so came over here and now I've found you ..... LOL!
This new system has some advantages ..... but I'm having trouble getting used to parts of it .... *sigh*.

I'm sure Jesse is too much of a gentleman to ever say anything .... even once he leaves office.
Liddy Dole was scheduled to make her official announcement on 9/11. She postponed it for a couple of weeks ..... don't remember the date ..... but her hat is officially in the ring. I hear that Erskine Bowles, who had said he would not run for the seat, is now re-considering since Jesse announced he would not seek re-election.
I still don't know what to think ...... I'll sure vote for Liddy if she gets the nomination but there are a lot of issues there I'm not real happy about.

What gets me is FReepmail ...... I keep trying to Preview it .... hit that ol' button and realize my message has been sent without my reading back over it to see if it made sense.

Bowles will have a lot of quetions to answer about his tenure as Chief of Staff. The man is not so stupid that he did not know UOX42 was a lying piece of dog dung.
My question number one for Ms.Dole would be: Was your husband really the tax collector for the welfare state and do plan to continue in that vein?

Re: Freepmail....and if I only could have a record of what I've said! But then I remember life before freepmail---seems like eons ago! Freepmail was a great improvement to the system.

I also want to find out more about her position on abortion and gun control. But, as I said, if she's the nominee, she'll be better than any Dumbocrat that's running so I'll probably vote for her. I wish someone with a real chance would challenge her in the primary. I'm not sure that I haven't heard that Vinroot is running. He was very good as mayor of Charlotte ..... but the eastern part of the state will vote against him just because he's from Charlotte. And he ran a completely lousy campaign for governor ..... just awful.

Funny you should say that .... just tonight I've been trying to find a link I told someone about. I've looked and looked for a thread that looks like it would have it ..... but apparently I FReepmailed her with it rather than pinging her to a thread, so I have no record of it. I'm probably going to FReepmail her later on and see if she can find it.

You are correct on the abortion and gun control questions. These will be critical to her chances. Vinroot did run a lousy campaign. He performed as though the fact that he knew dean Smith was going to get him elected.
Technical quetions again. What are:Bumps, pings and FReepmail?
To: costking
I hate to repeat myself but it's funny you should say that ... there's been a thread about that tonight.
Whenever someone replies to a thread, it puts it on the top of the Latest Posts thread. Sometimes I don't want to comment on a thread but do want to get it back on the front page of the Forum so others can see it ...... then I can just type "bump" or "bttt" (bump to the top) and hit Post.
You see bump and ping used interchangeably a lot ... and both serve the same purpose.
But if I'm reading another thread and think it's something you would be interested in, I could type your name in the To box and then when you hit Self-Search, it will show up and you can go read the thread.
Most people use the term *ping* when talking about flagging (another term that means the same thing as ping) a specific person to a thread and use *bump* for the general activity of replying so that a thread will go back to the top of the Latest Posts page.
Does any of that make sense? Sometimes I try to say too much and make things sound more complicated than they are.
A good place to learn a lot about FR ..... including the history, some of the lore and terminology, etc. is here ....
NEWCOMERS: Welcome Center and Information Desk
I heartily recommend spending some time there .... excellent links at the top of the thread.

Now for FReepmail. You will notice that just below each post is a row of thingies, one of which says Private Reply. If you click on that (hint: if you right click, you can open it in a new window and not lose your place on the thread), then you get a dialog box that has the name of the person whose post you said you wanted to Private Reply to (gosh, what awful grammar that is!) and the name of the thread. Then there is space to type a message. You do NOT use html there .... if you want to start a new paragraph, just hit Enter twice. But you can't use italics and all those goodies either. Once you hit Post, then your message goes zipping off to the recipient.
If I send you a FReepmail (and here you will see lots of comments about pizza deliveries, UPS trucks, etc. ...... that's us just kidding around saying that we have sent a FReepmail to someone), then when you go back to the Latest Posts page and refresh it, you will see a dark blue box at the top saying you have a message. Again, I find it helpful to right click and open in a new window. You can reply to the message if and when you desire.
You can also access FReepmail by clicking in the upper right hand corner of the Latest Posts page where it says Destinations in the little box ...... a drop down menu gives you several options.
Stuff in FReepmail does not show up on the forum. We use it for exchanging email addresses or phone numbers ..... stuff we don't want the whole world to see ..... or just for little private jokes and such.

Once again thanks for the tips. I clicked on the Welcome Center link and believe I could spend several days there. At least I know where to find some answers.

Your essay has stood the test of time. Do you have any others that are available on the internet? I wrote two satire pieces after writing that one. One was about the Supreme Court justices coming down to Florida to whip some sense into the Florida Supremes. I think it was pretty funny, but mostly due to that short (seemed like eternity) time when we were all waiting for the Supreme Court to make a ruling on the SCOFLA decision. The other piece was about Al Gore, upon losing his case at the Supreme Court, making an appeal to British Law and possibly to Roman Law if he lost there. Go to my profile page to find them if you're interested, but there's nothing serious like the one you read.

In lurking this thread lo these many weeks, I seem to recall a mention of you being an ex USAF. Is that a true memory or am I coming down with Alzheimers? The reason I ask is I served in the AF from 1956-1960.
To: costking
Almost...you were having a pre-senior moment...US Army..1977-1987.
