Military Helo flying low over I-15 in Vegas (my title)
Co-worker
Posted on 10/24/2001 4:09:19 PM PDT by sungod
A co-worker just called me to say that he was watching an American Military Helicopter flying 100 Feet above Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. He said it popped out from behind the Bellagio Hotel/Casino, then flew over 15, then following the exit to I-95. He said all the cars were breaking to see what was going on. This is a confirmed sighting by a friend/co-worker. I will try to get more details.
I-15 is the major freeway here in Vegas. This time of day it is a traffic mess like any major city is. 95 is also a major freeway.
It may be nothing, but I think we can all admit that this isn't standard military practice.

YOU MUST TRY THE BELLAGIO BUFFETGreat offer, sorry I missed it. I have heard great things about it and had intended to try it but I don't want a helo landing in the fountain/lake while I'm eating.

Those were my sentiments when the Navy jets started flying overhead at all hours of the day and night patrolling the skies of the Nation's Capital. Sobering, comforting, and unsettling in one.

Imagine what "Cops" would pay for video of that car chase. An Apache taking down the perps. Guess we wouldn't see the bad guys bolt from the car and dogs called in to find them (well, maybe cadaver dogs to find the parts a day or two later).

What's REALLY scary is that are people out there in America who would believe that.
AND they're allowed to vote.

Actually, these helicopters may be running a vehicle radiological screen - searching for an excessive radiological signature.
What better time of day to screen a massive amount of vehicles moving at slow speed than at rush hour?
You overfly at low level - with a neutrino detector hanging out the side, and when you pass over somebody that has a higher than normal background of radiological emission - you paintball the top of the vehicle, gain altitude and track the vehicle, calling in ground units for an ambush.
When you bag the bad guy, you discover what the heck was giving off the radiological signature.

Every time we go to Vegas on I-15 we expect to see flights of copters and especially speedy fighters buzzing the whole area. They fly from Nellis AAF Base and are always around, even before 9-11. Now they are really out there. Not to worry!

This is the last time I post anything here. Anyone keep track of the shortest opus?
Do we have a winner?

I wouldn't be surprised if the government simply told the vegas news outlets that it's not news and if after that it is simply not news.

Yes, there is an I-95 in Vegas. Are you sure that it is actually I95, and not state hwy 95 or something? There is an I-95 that runs from Maine to Miami. I drive on it nearly everyday.
