Note to pompous people: It is a breach of etiquette to point out another's breach of etiquette.

Keep this in your rolodex for use when etiquetter-than-thou types make noise: the first rule of etiquette is that you never draw attention to yourself or to the mistakes of others.
I had high-end formal etiquette training as a military cadet, and we were taught that if someone on unfamiliar turf (like a guest) were to commit a faux paus (like spill a drink) the very best thing we could do would be to do the same thing a little later on in order to make that person feel less like a boob.
If anything else , you do not correct others' mistakes. The mistakes of others end up catching up to those who make them - no help is needed.

If anything else , You left an unnecessary space before the comma.
Oops , I'll try to follow your advice.

Etiquette, schetiquette. If someone at FR makes a mistake, I'll tell them politely. If they get pissy about it, that's their problem. What, we should just sit around and let someone not put paragraph tags in their posts?

Another way of looking at this is that it is called having "REAL CLASS".

Another way of looking at this is that it is called having "REAL CLASS". The rule is fine for interpersonal contact. The 'net is a bit different. Some folks don't know how to use HTML, or make dupe posts, or don't know how the search function works. Nothing wrong with politely telling them how things work.

So seriously, what's the proper response to your post if one agrees with it and what is the proper response to it if one disagrees with it? (Less see, is there a third possibility?) Shall we call on Miss Manners? (I'm being silly - you're right on!)

the very best thing we could do would be to do the same thing a little later on in order to make that person feel less like a boob.
So then   ,   in order to avoid a social-faux-paux-in-a-gramatical-sense   ,   we should do the same thing? And is it proper etiquette to   ,   how shall I word this   ,   use the term boob?

    You are such a boob!

Sounds like PC nonsense to me. Too bad for the Etiquette Challenged. I appreciate it when I am corrected.

In correcting the errors of others, I would add that the rule is to be discrete while being sincerely concerned and helpful, not publicly malicious by causing shame and embarrassment.
I'm compeled to ask, why did you feel the need to post this comment?

I read of a case where the Queen of England had a foreign guest who picked up his finger bowl [meant for the rinsing of fingers only] and drank from it. She promptly picked up her own finger bowl and took a sip.

A professor of mine refers to the average uninformed sheeple as "boobus americanus".

I spill my drink for no man....

It is a breach of etiquette to point out another's breach of etiquette. Of course. That explains why you thoughtfully refrained from posting this.

That would make a great screen name.
