Ben-Eliezer: US demand is baseless
Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer characterized as "baseless" the US demand that IDF forces withdraw from Palestinian Authority areas.
He said Israel had no intention of remaining in PA-controlled areas.
"All Israel wants is to physically protect its citizens from further infiltrations by terrorists or car bombs," Ben-Eliezer said.
"The government of Israel is the one responsible for insuring the existence and security of the state and its residents.
"We very much appreciate the US, the strategic cooperation ... between us, and we very much respect it, and we certainly stand behind it in it's mission [in Afghanistan] Ben-Eliezer said.
"I think the things which came out of there [the US State Department statement], with all due respect - and we are not belittling it - have no place on the ground because we have no intention of remaining in the territories, conquering the cities, or [their] hilltops."
Israel is prepared to leave the PA areas the moment someone on the other side takes responsibility for negotiations over terms of the withdrawal, Ben-Eliezer said.
"Then there is nothing preventing us discussing the conditions for changing the guard," he said.

It must have escaped you there are nearly five-hundred (500) *more* Palestinians murdered in the past year than the terrorists have taken in Israeli lives. Rationalize that one away--it might be fun to see you try. By your logic the fact the US will kill a lot more in Afghanistan then the 5,000 who perished in the WTC/Pentagon attacks make those deaths acceptable.

Arafat has a 60,000 strong police force. If he is not willing to use them to rein in Palestinian terrorists then Israel will. He was perfectly willing to kills his own people just because they demonstrated in support of Osama and that really looked bad on evening news in the US and Europe.

The U.S. people who make these demands are on crack. Israel needs to do what we're doing, and they are. Taking out terrorists who are a threat to their security. Arafat signed an agreement that he would arrest any terrorists, and if he isn't doing that, Israel needs to. And then, they need to do the same thing to Arafat.

More Zionist bull.... does it ever end? Sigh... Well, monkeyshine, I really should get back to work. In the meantime, just for once, try to see beyond your own viewpoint and do some of your own research. I will try to address each point sometime later. (nO promises tho). Let me ask you this? Have you ever had a Palestinian friend in your life? I have in the past, and no, he wasn't a terrorist. Just a very nice person. Do you include Muslims and Jews and Christians at your parties? I do. I doubt if you do. Would you ever date a Muslim person? I have here and there throughout my life. Nice people, most of them. I am Christian, by the way. I have even dated a Zionist. He's nice and we even discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We agreed to disagree. I don't date him anymore, but I am friendly when I see him at social events. But to tell you the truth, I think he is a little obnoxious in his self-righteousness. But no one's perfect.

No, I don't miss that point. First, this is the purpose of continuing negotiations. It was Arafat who walked out of the negotiations.
Furthermore, your point was the arguement sucessfully presented by Arafat at Oslo in 1993. Israel conceded to allow him a police force of 20,000 armed with automatic weapons. They stood by and allowed this to double despite being limited by contract. It is incumbent upon Arafat to use these resources in the effort of peace, not war.
It doesn't help to see the police that were supposed to be used to help enforce the peace involved in the terror. For example, if you recall the few weeks before the Intifada broke loose (before Sharon visited the temple mount) a Palestinian police officer shot and killed his Israeli partner while on joint patrol. This is the kind of stuff that makes trust break down. And it spirals into an abyss if it is not brought to an immediate halt. I don't believe Arafat has done nearly enough to wind down the violence. He should have outlawed Hamas after the first bombing of the disco. Instead, they have continued to operate inside his territory to this day.
If Arafat is incapable of shutting them down, he should negotiate for more power, or stand back and let Israel do it for him. He can't just stand there doing nothing.

Because most Zionists are arrogant, aggressive, bullying, self-righteous,one-sided,etc. But not all.

You wrote that you dated Muslims, Christians, and Zionists.
Why can't you write the word Jew like you did for the other religions? You can be a Christian Zionist after all.
Too bad your Jewish friend was "obnoxious" to you. I'm sure it was mutual.

If by Zionist you mean a Jew who supports Israel, then 99% of the Jews qualify as Zionists. And by your definitin this means that 99% of Jews are arrogant, self-righteous, obnoxious, etc.

I have been very courteous to you up to this point but you continue to insult the intelligence of everone on this board including those who you would find sympathetic to your point of view. With all due respect, either put up or shut up. You have failed to refute a single fact presented. All you have done is characterize facts as "zionist bull" without ever presenting a reasoned opinion or evidence to support your point despite ample opportunity to do so.
Few people here are interested in your pluralistic sexual proclivities. My social life, or the religious/racial background of the people who attend my parties is of no relevance to the matter at hand. Either you are capable of a reasoned, factual discussion of the matter or not. So far, you have shown yourself to be incapable. You have merely filled the thread with ad hominem attacks against posters and ad hominem arguements that are irrelevant to the issue.
To: monkeyshine
Yep, you're a hard-core Zionist. Bye bye.

Most Jews, meaning over 90%, support Israel and therefore in the eyes of Israel haters are Zionists in the pejorative meaning of that term, i.e. Arab baby killing Parasitic Nazis who steal other peoples land and live on the US dole.

Muslims have a great deal of land, Jews have this little tract. I say, let the Jews have a homeland.
BINGO !!! You, my friend, have hit the nail exactly square on the head. What is all this Palestinian state crap? Let's be honest here, Muslim state and brother, they've got PLENTY. One little bit for Israel, and somehow they are these big bad aggressors? Give me a break. The Palenstinians are no American Indians, so you anti-zionists stop acting like they are some poor, downtrodden, put upon people. They have the full faith and backing of every other middle east nation. Just no one wants to admit it.

... I notice that the Palestinians (many of whom are immigrants from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, etc) don't seem to WANT citizenship in any other country, just Israel. Could that have something to do with the fact that Israeli citizens have more rights than most Arabs in Muslim countries? Hm? Interesting, eh? No one talks about that.

Few people here are interested in your pluralistic sexual proclivities.WCF51's vagina politics are exactly in line with liberal thinking: no research, no background, just "well, I've known a few of them and they were nice." Can you imagine basing your entire worldview on who you've slept with? Do you suppose she voted for Clinton because "he was cute"? Yikes!!
