US jets accidentally fire on Northern Alliance positions
(Updated at 1830 PST)
BAGRAM: United States fighter jets on Monday mistakenly fired on opposition posts during their third raid on Taliban frontlines north of the Afghan capital Kabul, said a report quoting witnesses.
Four photographers were in an opposition post when two F-16's screamed overhead.
They said they saw at least two bombs land near opposition posts and another bomb hit a Taliban controlled area near Qalai Nasru, west of Bagram airbase and situated some 45 kms north of Kabul.

If Jang cites "a report quoting witnesses," it must be true.

Stuff happens in a war zone; no one should be surprised when it does.

I will take this story with a grain of salt until there is confirmation from a second source. That said, it seems to me that the world (and the press in particular) needs to wake up to the reality of war. The fact that every stray bomb is reported as breaking news is absurd. IT'S WAR, for crying out loud.
Too many people still see this whole thing as entertainment. When a bomb hits something they don't like, they boo the actors. Geez louis, wait until we nuke someone or a small pox attack takes out 3 million people - these folks might actually get up and leave the theatre.

Concentrate on the south. The north gets enough support from Russia.

IF...two bombs land(ed) near opposition posts and another bomb hit a Taliban controlled area ...
THEN why is this considered "firing on Northern Alliance Positions"?
Just sounds like close air support to me...

Man, you don't give up, do you? Does it even matter to you that no one cares about your paranoid fantasies?

We are desperatly trying to keep the Northern bunch from looting whats left of Kabul. Buying time to see if we can forge some kind of end play arrangement with the surrounding intrest, notably the tribes of the South. A migration to stability is the optimum goal.

I could see Afghanistan as currently configured as an anachronism. Could be cut into four pieces. The US Military could be giving oh so subtle encouragement to the Alliance that moving west could be a better idea. A lot of coulds.

When the body count on innocent civilians goes past 6000 in Afghanistan then I'll say, "The Score Is Even". That's when revenge killing starts.

From what I have read coalition forming within Afghanistan could be accelerated by the Northern Alliance advancing on Kabul. The history of the warlords switching allegiances to the perceived winning force suggests those warlords currently allied with the Taliban would be eager to defect. Now may be the last best time for such defections.

Yup. Unfortunately Americans are not known for their accuracy. I have a relative who served in the British Army during WW2. He said that whenever the Germans would start bombing or shelling, the allies would hide in the bunkers. And whenever the British would start shelling or bombing, the Germans would hide. But whenever the Americans would start shelling or bombing, everyone would hide.
