I wonder why many honorable businesses, organizations, etc. do not put their money together and purchase various thought-disseminating institutions such as networks, newspapers, etc.

Unfortunately for idealism, these are not institutions but businesses. The press buys ink by the trainload and must have something to sell to pay for the ink. That's the way it goes. Make money and you are in business; lose money and you are out of business.
