Sorry, but I need to pipe in here. FF, my friend, relax and give it up. The topic you've chosen is toast (besides it being really difficult to answer - How can they do this and how can they do that? Very difficult to answer except for "I don't know."

That said, be sure to look at your subject-pronoun agreement. You used a singular noun (a child) but a plural pronoun (them).
