How Have We Become a Nation of Dumbies?
FreedomFriend | 10/21/01 | Freedom Friend

I'm posting this topic in an effort to try to get a grip on the insanity that plagues this country. Generally speaking, I know the reasons, but it is without logic why our country continues to spiral out of control towards oblivion in regards to political, social, and cultural traits. Thus, without further ado, I will try to explain some of the many examples.

In regard to politics, how can our politicians continue to promote policies that expand government control. Furthermore, how can they neglect to get involved in those areas that are constitutionally given? Not only that, but how can some politicians promote the elimination of various examples of American Rights and, or, Freedoms?

For example, how can our federal government neglect to protect our borders? They do this through their underfunding of the border patrol; a unit of a mere 7000 agents, whereas the NYC police has roughly 30,000 cops. Meanwhile, illegal aliens, non-assimilating individuals, enemies of America, drugs, etc. continue to easily "break-through" our borders. As a result, our culture is under constant attack and is continuously broken down. Not only that, but how can the government, under the guise of public schools, continue to promote an insane mantra known as "Multiculturalism" and "Diversity" despite the known damaging effects and divisionary tactics that have been proven throughout history? How can many of our politicians push for gun control, the destruction of the family unit through Homosexual marriage, benefits, etc, and the elimination of free speech through hate crimes legislation? How can our government be so in-line with what the liberal, socialist elite say and believe? For example, it appears that our policies align themselves up with what the media says, though it is on a ten year delay. How can all of these things be happening to such a great country, though the majority of individuals, deep-down, resent it?

As it appears, there is no "We the People". The people have so little say. It is the socialist elite throughout the media, the government, and the Universities that dictate nearly the entire direction of this country; a bleak one. If good, moral men speak up, the media silences them through the slandering of their names. If good men with GREAT ideas run for public office, many of the campaign contributers, aka big business, will not back them. Thus, they cannot get their views out to the people in comparison to the frontleaders who merely stand for the status-quo; that is, a continuation of socialism and the elimination of freedoms, morals, decency, etc. As it stands, it appears that the government, the media, the schools/universities, and big business (to less of an extent) has been sabotaged by people who hate traditional America and true Americanism.

I often think about the state of things. I wonder why many honorable businesses, organizations, etc. do not put their money together and purchase various thought-disseminating institutions such as networks, newspapers, etc. It simply doesn't make sense. Unless the haters of America do not want to sell, are there really too few financially-rich individuals who have America's best interests at heart, instead caring about how they are perceived or their financial assets?

Are there really too few individuals in congress to speak up for what's right? That is, the Constitution, honor, values, morals, Freedom, etc. I don't get it. Why don't some of our House and Senate members speak with angst on the House and Senate floors? Why don't they set the record straight and come out against the enemies of America by telling the American people what is going on, or by showing some emotion towards American haters in our own government?

As it stands, it appears that all it'd take would be for some honorable, dutiful men to occupy our government. Even the ones who are on our side often do not look like it. With God-fearing, Constitution loving men, we could stop the slide and reverse the trend. However, we're not doing nor seeing that. I only can pray that things change.

The spelling appears to derive from the word dummy, not the word dumb. Dummies are inanimate objects that happen to have the quality of being dumb (unable to speak), and therefore by derivation, they are also dumb (stupid) in the singular, but dummies in the plural.

Too many Americans, having received substandard educations, rely on "mainstream" media outlets for their "news" and are either too lazy, too clueless, or too stupid to seek out the truth on their own. It takes effort to keep up with what's going on in our country and the world. It takes effort to learn about our Constitution and those functions for which we have governments in the first place.

It takes effort........and I believe Americans have merely become lazy.

Some of these people take themselves way too seriously. It sounds to me like a lot of them didn't read past the title of the article.

I am a product of the government schools (GS). I graduated from high school in 1957 and was exposed to several hundred teachers. Most were dedicated professionals. They were also GOOD AMERICANS first. They were not -- though there ARE exceptions conspicuous by their presence in the system today -- the current crop of multinational, polyglot run amok PC deciples now infesting even PRIVATE classrooms today. And I can STILL name the EXCEPTIONAL ones.

* Edna Kleinmeyer who didn't just teach English: She imbued us with a love of language I carry to this day;
* Charlie Kluckholn, the tough old wrestling coach who taught chemistry and gave me some of the best advise I ever heard;
* Charles Huffman, my homeroom teacher with the WWII damaged leg who helped me over a very rough spot in my life;
* Franklin Jefferis, a "lowly" shop teacher, whose love of a job well done was wordlessly communicated to his kids in thousands of subtle ways. Mr. Jefferis died soon after I graduated. One October night, I “visited” him – alone -- at the funeral home and wept as I thanked him one last time.

But the current GS are radically different from the system through which I passed 50 years ago. Know that my concern and hostility are NOT directed at those who still TEACH -- really teach, really want the best EDUCATION for the kids, want to prepare them academically for the future.

Those feelings are reserved for SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS who have socialist/collectivist agendas or quietly acquiesce to the agendas imposed on them from above. They know that what is going on is wrong, but say nothing lest they jeopardize their careers. Author Thomas Sowell calls these folks "the anointed." And as the title of his book on the subject, "The Vision of The Anointed," indicates, they HAVE a vision! That it is NOT the PARENTS’ vision is of no concern to them.

When my kids were still in the GS, my wife and I were quite active. The Principal of their elementary school chose me to represent the school in something called the LSAC (Local School Advisory Committee) program. I attended several meetings held at the County Board of Education headquarters. I came away from the VERY FIRST of those meetings with these impressions:

1. Those folks DID NOT speak English. Through tight little smirks clearly indicative of the low esteem, indeed, contempt, they had for the uninformed and ignorant gaggle of parents arrayed before them, they spoke in buzz words and technobabble code only they comprehended. At one point -- to the visible relief of the other parents -- I stopped one woman’s presentation and asked for a translation of what she'd said. She was NOT pleased!

2. They DID NOT want parents involved! Cookie sales and PTA? OK. Serious criticism of a course or textbook? Verboten! Your option was private or parochial school. There very little home schooling then.

3. Most of these people MAY have once been educators. They were now bureaucrats guarding their turf.

4. Many of those administrative folks were making over $50K and, though I looked for signs of it, I saw little evidence of anything resembling “work.” And this was 20 years ago when the average classroom teacher earned less than $25K.

5. There were WAY too many administrators in the GS. It is a perfect opportunity to provide make-work sinecures for “anointed” members of the educational fraternity. Four years as an Air Force instructor taught me how to spot the signs.

Here’s the “bottom line:” Simply hurling more money into the black hole of the GS WILL NOT WORK. Most of that money will NEVER get to the classroom or into the pockets of DESERVING teachers who actually TEACH. And teach what any sensible human being – REGARDLESS of race, faith or ethnicity -- instinctively understands to be correct, morally defensible material.

Bush is right about one thing: We need accountability! Perhaps you recall Clinton’s asinine plan to send 100,000 PAID Americorps “volunteers” into the grade schools to TEACH KIDS TO READ. Why hadn’t their PREVIOUS teachers – OR THEIR PARENTS! -- taught them to perform that rather basic skill???

Think about what you just read as the political ruling class continues our slide to third-world hell-hole status and YOUR local government schools continue to raise YOUR property taxes.

Furthermore, I'm not a newbie. I've been around FreeRepublic for a long time, and have only recently had a name change.

Dang it!
An attitude change might have been more useful.

Here I am on the first page of the thread and you are no longer here...

This is not a vanity. It is a topic posted in the questions/opinions section, which, I might add, is a part of this forum.

For those unclear on the concept, all "made up" posts are "Vanities", regardless of where they are posted.
Posting in the wrong place of course, qualifies you for potential immortality.

Taking oneself too seriously is guaranteed to get you a permanent membership.
Taking oneself too seriously and eschewing proper spelling makes it a slam dunk.

This guy is so hung up on himself that he still doesn't realize that he's posted one of the longest threads of the year. No mean feat.

After 4 years, I still can't make that claim.
