Go Ahead, Microsoft, Flatter Apple Again

Mac heads shouldn't get too upset when they see how closely Windows XP apes Apple's OS X. In the long run, imitation can only help Jobs & Co.

Even though Windows XP won't be officially released until Oct. 25, I can hear the Mac faithful howling already. Once again, Mac heads are accusing Microsoft of building its latest PC operating system on innovations pioneered at Apple. And, quite frankly, they have a point. New XP features such as Windows Movie Maker, My Pictures, and the revamped Windows Media Player strike me as awfully similar to Apple's iMovie, Image Capture, and iTunes software.

Oh, Please. Mac o'philes who keep trying to assert their superiority remind me of Goreons who say that their man would have won if they could have kept counting the votes in Florida. Bush won, Windows won, end of story.

I currently have Windows, Mac OS X and Unix (solaris) system running my home office. How do I rate them? Solaris rules in terms of raw horsepower and stability. However, Mac OS X comes in a pretty close second, I have to admit. The Windows machine is so bad that it has become a standing joke in my household. I have decided that I am not going to buy any more Windows machines. I'm tired of the infinite problems that come along with Windows, and I'm tired of always being promised that "the next release will be stable". Bull-oney. I've had it with Windows and Microsoft, and I won't be buying any more of their products from here on.

Windows won in the marketplace, like VHS won over Betamax, like cassettes won over eight-tracks, like TCP-IP won over all other networking protocols, the list goes on and on. You may prefer the aesthetics of eight tracks to those of cassettes but you will have a hard time finding hardware or software to indulge your preferences.

I'll probably go Mac next time I buy a new computer. I will not be chained to MS's registration system where I have to call them before I can reload my system.

Oh, like I can tinker with a MAC!

FWIW I use an old MAC SE+ DuperDrive in my bedroom for wordprocessing. Everything else is on PC's.

Looking at the MAC- which is only about TEN YEARS OLD I have to wonder why Apple folks thought they were superior.

The machine basically sucks, and it cost a fortune back then too.

To add insult to injury I stiull can't figure out some of the menu items.

Apple Folk have a completely different perception of the world. To me thay value form over funtion.

OTOH I can do TONS of stuff with my PC, and I can tweak and hack it to boot!

An Apple person would NEVER DREAM of opening his machine while lots of PC people run without cases for the reasons I've mentioned.

And, a good friend of mine who is a dedicated Apple freak wanted the picture of the Eagle with the Amrican Flag likk arpaint. It took him several days (with his brand new state of Apple Art machine) to figure out how to get the graphic and print it. Even then it didn't measure up to what I had on my (old 500mz AMD based) PC. To make matters worse he couldn't figure out hoe to "flip" the picture around!

Nope, Apple Folk are like tea drinkers and PC People are like coffee drinkers. Apple people are anal and SO into proceedure while PC people just want a hit NOW no matter how they get it!

Regarding the Meter, does OS X fit under BSD?

This article is a case of drawing parallels where there are none provable.  The author could have as easily said that MS was copying Real Networks applications with the revamped Media Player.

...and copying Thumbs Plus with MS My Picture.

...and copying Adobe After Affects with Windows Movie Maker.

Just because a Apple OS and a MS OS have similar features doesn't always mean that one copied the other.

In the last line the author exposes his bias and in the rest the article he exposes his ignorance.

Aah, you know me too well. Of course it does. That's why I tried to guide the "coffee drinkers" to it!
