We cannot deal with terror. It will not end in a treaty. There will be no peaceful coexistence, no negotiations, no summit, no joint communique with the terrorists. The struggle can only end with their complete and permanent destruction... My favorite line, it makes me happy, happy, happy...

This was an excellent speech on the war against terrorism. I'm so glad Bush has got Cheney and the adults in charge.
I was waiting for somebody to post the transcript so I could file it and print it out. Thanks!

We watched the speech on FNC and loved it. Did anyone else notice the miserable looking people behind the VP who didn't clap or stand? It was a disgrace...but fortunately Mr. Cheney outshined them all.

I noticed that lady in the strapless red gown who was so rude during Cheney's speech. She seemed disgusted to have to clap, or even to listen. I thought they were extremely rude.

At Al Smith's passing, Franklin Roosevelt remembered him as frank, friendly, warmhearted, as honest as the noonday sun. Al Smith was the first Irish Catholic Democrat to run for President. He was defeated by Herbert Hoover in 1928. But 4 years later Al Smith worked hard for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Roosevelt was the son of the New York Dutch aristocracy. There was not much love in the upper crust world of the Roosevelts for the lowly Irish Catholic named Al Smith. But Franklin asked and Al worked hard to elect Franklin in 1932. Roosevelt was elected but he kicked Al Smith in the teeth. Smith went to D.C. to try to get a job in the Roosevelt administration. Franklin has promised one for help in getting elected president. But when Al got to D.C. Franklyn was too busy to see Al.
Al Came back to New York and never again held public office.
I find it interesting that Cheney found it fun to quote the hollow FDR praise FDR made at Al's funeral. It was designed to open old wounds between what remains of the Irish Democrats of New York and the very leftist Demorats now in charge.
Hillary did not understand the dig. But Schumer did. And so did every Irishman in the house.
They still applauded Cheney. Cheney was reminding them that he may be a Republican, but unlike liberal Democrats Cheney keeps his word.

Great observation and history lesson, Common Tator. Hope that enough people got it and it helps GOP in NYC somehow, someway.

The people behind Cheney are/were reprobates. They serve as a reminder that not all Americans like America.
I just wish PIAPS (Pig in a Pants Suit) had been on camera the whole time-- as disgusting as it would be, it would be educational to many Dims.

I just re-read your post to my husband. Thank you for the history lesson. It makes me appreciate the current administration even more.

I watched this last night...Vice-President Cheney, wearing his nice dinner tux and using the most civil language a gentleman may have at his command, said essentially the same thing that note we've been dropping on the Taliban says, the one alerting them to the fact they have condemned themselves to death. Cheney is such a cool and brilliant guy. We're so lucky to have Dubya and his posse at the helm...thank the good Lord.
And, thank you for the post.

These operations will require a broader, more realistic approach to gathering intelligence. Broader and more realistic than whose approach? Can you say Bill and Hillary? Cheney went to a Democratic dinner and kicked liberal democrat a$$. If you were a liberal Democrat gal in a red dress you would have been madder than hell, too.
Cheney was trying to make Republicans out of the Irish, at a traditional Irish Democratic Politcal dinner. It was a very masterful pitch that Bill, Hillary, and Chuckie are not Al Smiths legacy. The decendants of FDR are not Al's legacy... George and I are.
Damn right it made her mad. It was supposed to.

Thanks for sharing that anecdote. My father was raised in a Democrat family which admired Al Smith. My grandmother worked enthusiastically to help elect FDR and even wrote some of his campaign music used in the state. Dad was the first to see the phoniness of FDR. By the third term, so did the rest of the family.
Al Smith, however, was genuine. Once when confronted with a heckler who said "Tell us everything you know Al, it won't take very long," Smith retorted "I'll do better and tell everything we both know, it won't take but a moment longer."

Great speech! He was even generous enough to mention AlGore! I didn't get to see it TV - who were these people who didn't applaud? Anybody recognize them?

Somewhere in George S. Patton's life someone was able to spark an imagination,Ignite a passion. Patton was teachable and later led. And forever will be remembered. Most likely that teacher was a man exactly like Dick Cheney.

Damn right it made her mad. It was supposed to.I for one am enjoying your insights into this event tremendously. It makes a great speech all the better. If you have more details I would be glad to see them.
Is there any chance that the working class Dems in NYC can be persuaded that they are NOT Socialists but are really closer to the GOP??? In the South, people vote like their Daddy and Grandaddy voted, regardless of platform-- how to break the cycle is the question?
To: livius
He was even generous enough to mention AlGore! This is because Dick Cheney and George W. Bush have more class in their pinky than the Democrats have in their entire party.
It makes me mad sometimes to hear them say nice things about the same people who are plotting their annhilation, but I also think people on the fence respond positively to these comments. I know they will never be reciprocated if the shoe was on the other foot.

CHENEY: Those who harbor terrorists share guilt for the acts they commit. And under the Bush doctrine, a regime that harbors or supports terrorists will be regarded as hostile to the United States.
