Darn. I couldn't get Stairway to load. My computer is so primitive, the Professor could have made it from coconuts and rainwater.

Guess you'll just have to forward the link to your friends, and invite yourself over. Or maybe to your boss.

*sigh* TV is just not the same anymore.

When I can't sleep and am sick of war news, I tune in to Nick at Nite for these re-runs. They never fail to put me in a good mood.

I gave birth to 4 kids between 1960 and 1965, so I never had time to watch these shows when they were "first run". Love the re-runs and wish today's TV offered such wholesome entertainment.

Nick at Nite or TV Land. You are sure to catch something worthwhile there! (History channel is good too)

Weird Al does a Gilligan's Island riff on his Amish Paradise parody.

One of my fav's ... Ben Casey..

We should do a thread on Ben Casey and Dr. Kildare.

I don't have much to say about Gilligan's Island but I did watch the show and enjoyed it.

I swear this is a true story. When I was in high school I had a creative writing teacher who (to his credit, I guess) was extremely oblivious to any pop culture. One day we studied the ballad form of poetry. Our assignment that night was to write a ballad, following the form. I don't know why, but I realized that "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" fit the form perfectly - four line stanzas, ABCB rhyming, tells a narrative story, etc. So I wrote it down and turned it in the next day.

Before he came into the room, I told everybody in the class not to laugh and give away the joke. So when he gets to mine, Mr. Brezina starts reading it, very seriously:

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.
(Ahh. Very good, Mr. Gallagher. The scene is set!)

The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
the skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour, a three hour tour………

(Nice use of repetition!)

And on and on. By the time he got to the "With Gilligan! The Skipper too!" part, the whole class was hysterical. He just ignored the disruption, as he normally did, looked at me and says, "The Movie Star... Mr. Gallagher, I'm curious as to why you broke from the form here..."
