Most who were born at the tail end of the baby boom
- 1956 to 1964 or the beginning of GenX - 1965 to 1970 -
feel we are not part of those generations.
Therefore, it has been decided, we will be forever know as
THE BRADY BOOMERS

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
the skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour, a three hour tour
The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
the Minnow would be lost; the Minnow would be lost.
The ship took ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,
with Gilligan, the Skipper too,
the Millionaire, and his Wife,
the Movie Star, and the rest,
are here on Gilligan's Isle.
NOTE: After the first year, the last two lines were changed to say:
"the Movie Star, the Professor and Mary Ann, here on Gilligan's Isle."And after our 30 minutes of fun with the Castaways was done for that day, we would hear
.
So this is the tale of our castaways,
they're here for a long, long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
it's an uphill climb.
The first mate and his skipper too,
will do their very best,
to make the others comfortable,
in the tropic island nest.
No phones, no lights, no motor cars,
not a single luxury.
Like Robinson Crusoe,
it's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friend,
you're sure to get a smile.
From seven stranded Castaways,
Here on Gilligan's Isle.

I still watch it on TV Land with my kids. They think it's great.

I love this post! On Friday nights, I sat on the sofa with our two little girls and watched (and loved the Brady Bunch) and yes, Gilligan and the crew, and the Partridge Family (I think I love you, but what am I so afraid of.) Great memories being the Mom of two kids who fit into this category. Thanks.

Do you know what year that was?

I always thought it was rude of them to name five cast members and then refer to the remaining two as 'the rest'. I was very concerned about them as a small child.

I always thought Mary Ann and I would settle down together someday.

Gilligan's Island is one of those silly shows will be around for a long time. My youngest loves "I Love Lucy". She's 15.
*sigh* TV is just not the same anymore.

As I was grabbing the pictures, I found out that the Professor and Mary Ann didn't have it in their contract to be considered main characters. After the first season, and the popularity of the series, it was changed.

A friend of mine told me he watched the movie that was on about GI last Sunday night and they said that Bob Denver specifically told the producers, either add "the professor and Mary Ann" rightfully at the end of the theme song, or just include me (Gilligan) with the "and the rest" part. He evidently was pretty cool and wanted everyone to get noticed. So the producers had to buckle and change the words.

It seems to me that Hollywood is re-examining their priorities
and hopefully that will show up in some new imaginative shows
instead of the trash they currently produce.
If not, I'll just keep watching TV Land and Nick at Nite.
P.S. Did you get my FReep mail?
To: WIMom
Good job!
Chakka says:
"BR^Fn Chhan Kjasl errttum"
Which translates to "Do one for Land of the Lost"
To: phillibuck
What I read didn't mention Bob Denver's part in the change. WTG, Gilligan! I bet they got pressure from the rest of the cast(aways) as well.

Anyone else rememberthat great parody in the late 70s by Little Roger and the Goosebumps? It's "Stairway to Heaven" with the words to the Gilligan's Island theme?
Haven't heard it for years, but I just found it... click the link:
Stairway to Gilligan's Island
Takes a little while to load, but it's worth it.

GREAT FIND!!!!

Our 15-year-old son has seen every "I Love Lucy" episode a dozen times. He says he finds it "comforting." ???

Awesome site. Did you check out the White House pictures? The cast received an award, and were invited to the White House in 1998. No pictures of the rotten duo! hehehehe
