Berkeley Resolution Proposes the U.N. Sue Afghanistan in Lieu of U.S. Bombs

(Berkeley-AP) -- Sparks will be flying tomorrow night when the Berkeley City Council votes on a controversial resolution condemning the US attack on Afghanistan.

The resolution asks that letters be sent to President Bush and Congress to urge them to halt the bombing. The resolution says those responsible for the September 11th terror attacks should be brought to justice by having the United Nations sue Afghanistan for harboring terrorists.

The measure was first presented last week as an emergency measure by Councilwoman Dona Spring -- but was put off a week after failing to win the needed six votes for immediate debate.

Mayor Shirley Dean and three more moderate members issued a statement saying they are saddened over both the resolution and what they called Spring's inflammatory language. Spring was quoted as calling the US a terrorist nation. She says she was misquoted and doesn't believe the nation is involved in terrorism.

Nevertheless, she has been inundated by critical e-mail from around the country. She says she will reword the resolution to make it more sensitive.

Berkeley is also the city which briefly outlawed American flags on city fire trucks after the terror attacks.

Berkeley should cecede from the Union and start their own country. We should impose a 200% tax on exports to the Nation of Berkeley, forbid them the use or development of a military, forbid them the use or development of private property or privately owned businesses. Place a 20' exlectric fence around it and scrutinize the border. Anyone wishing to immigrate to the nation of Berkeley is allowed to, but must first renounce their US citizenship.

When they complain that they need the USA to provide them with food because their liberal dogma doesn't provide for them in practice, forbid them from any foreign aid (aka USA aid).
