While not Roman Catholic myself and as an evcangelical Christian, I believe that today's Roman Catholic Church is well within the parameters of Christianity; much more so than some of the occultic teachings of some of the so-called "Charismatic" preahers on TV. Besides, my older son graduated from an outstanding Catholic teaching university three years ago, The University of Portland (OR).

Yup, but isnt it frustrating to go over the same ground over and over and over again? I have to take a break every few weeks to recharge my batteries. You're right. I should probably excuse myself from those threads. I actually did kick the habit for a few weeks after the Sept 11 tragedy. I got drawn back in when the outrageous claim that the Baptists were the first Christians and the Catholics broke away from them popped up again. That kind of stuff drives me nuts.
Maybe I should wear a patch, it might help me kick the habit.

There are a lot of conversations about Our Lady's appearance at Zeitoun years agoMy information on the apparition at Zeitoun is pretty sketchy, can you share some details of the in-country discussions? Were there a lot of conversions resulting?

Yet another convert saying hello to my Christian brethren. Married a "cradle Catholic" woman and we are raising our son in the Church, so it was the right thing for me to do. Being raised Lutheran, I noticed there is some commonality between the liturgies of the two churches. Had a brief flirtation with agnosticism/existentialism in college (as many are want to do). Spent some years in the Church of Christ but I came to have issues with the one congregation I had joined, so it was time to move on. A strange spiritual odyssey...

Thanks for the ping, jg, and hi to all my Catholic FR friends! I always miss the good threads when I'm away! Heard a great Catholic joke this past Sunday:
A young newly-married Catholic couple were anxious to start a family. Unfortunately after a year or so they were still unsuccessful, so they decided to make a pilgrimage to Lourdes. In great faith and awe, they visited the shrine, lit a candle, and prayed for the Blessed Mother to intercede for them to her Son. Lo and behold, a month after their return from the shrine, the wife became pregnant, and over the next dozen years, the couple was blessed with ten healthy happy children! One day the couple announced to some friends that they would be making a return trip to Lourdes. Nodding understandingly, the friends asked "Going back to thank Our Lady for her intercession?" "No," they replied. "We're going back to blow out the candle."

When do I learn the secret handshake? Immediately after confirmation, your priest gives you the secret handshake and your own copy of the Notre Dame playbook.

Hi Just found this. I just want to share this with you. I have been reading Thomas Reeves biography of Bishop Sheen
America's Bishop and Reeves shows where all the bile comes from. We get it from left and right, from the Liberals and from the Fundies because they are afraid of us.
I am a native Texan now living in the DFW area, where the Catholic population is now starting to exceed that of the Baptists because of northern and Tejano/Mexican in-migration.

Hi RS,
I've read your posts. You do a fine job defending the faith. I'm from Rhode Island but I like you Texans. Fight the good fight.

Which reminds me- - -When I attended my first mass (just to find out what goes on in the secret rituals) the man in the pew in front of me was attired in shorts and a Notre Dame sweatshirt. His family was similarly dressed. After communion they headed straight for the door, not sticking around for the rest of the service. Not to cast stones, or anything, but isn't that kind of disrespectful? I have since noticed that this kind of behavior is not at all uncommon.

Get even: Find out wehat mass they attend and sit in front of them dressed in a Purdue sweatshirt!

OK, I haven't read all the thread but did search for some key words that are missing at this critical time.
The murderers in filthy nightshirts coming for your throats have made their intentions known:
http://www.smh.com.au/news/0109/13/world2/world26.html Chief Superintendent Avelino Razon said a plot called "Project Bojinka" was uncovered by Philippine police in 1995 after arresting terrorist Abdul Hakim Murad in a Manila apartment where he was plotting to assassinate visiting Pope John Paul II.
Murad "is part of a terrorist cell established by Ramzi Yousef under the direction of Osama bin Laden," Razon said. Both Murad and Yousef were then wanted by US authorities for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
"In the course of the investigation, we found out through a laptop computer confiscated from Murad that they were also going to implement a terrorist plot called Project Bojinka," Razon, formerly Manila's police chief, said.
The plot called for the hijacking of US commercial airliners, bombing them or crashing them into several targets including the Central Intelligence Agency.
(In a hurry)
Also for just war considerations see
www.newadvent.org (a link given to me by an Dominican Brother).
Get with it, folks.

Feel free to add me to any Catholic lists available. I have the feeling we are all going to need each other's input in the very near future.

LOL! BaBaStooey is the person who started the thread, I think. I told her to add me to the list of Catholics. I did find your post to me pretty easily by doing a self search and clicking on your post number. Since you were so kind to answer me, I wonder if you can answer another question: If I want to ask about a personal crisis in practicing my faith, should I ask a kindred spirit in the Caucus, ask it in general at the end of the thread, or see my priest? Grin...
