Hey no-meat-eaters-on-Fridays-during-Lent!
There are a ton of us Catholic Freepers out there, this is our little thread in the big big world. This is just my way of attempting to get to know people just like me.
A few links I enjoy:
www.vatican.va - the Holiest Web Site on Earth
www.scripturecatholic.com - providing Scripture references to support the teachings of the faith
And lastly, I post a joke I once heard on Free Republic:
What is the difference between a Catholic and a Protestant? Catholics wave to each other in the liqour store.

Funeral Mass to be said for Daniel F. McGinley
By Rusty Pray
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated today for Daniel F. McGinley, 40, a devoted husband and father, devout Roman Catholic and proud Irishman presumed to have died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Mr. McGinley, the oldest of five sons in a big Philadelphia family, lived in Ridgewood, N.J., where he sang "Danny Boy" every year at the Knights of Columbus dinner.
A senior vice president of the brokerage Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Mr. McGinley was on the 89th floor of the South Tower when it was struck by United Airlines Flight 175.
In calls to his wife, Peggy, and his brother Dennis, he told them of witnessing the first jet crash into the North Tower.
"He told [Dennis] it was horrifying," said his brother Marty. "He was upset. He was witnessing awful things - people jumping out of windows - and he was praying for them. When he called his wife, he was saying the rosary."
Mr. McGinley, who carried a rosary wherever he went, told his wife he was "working his beads" - his way of telling her he was saying the rosary. Then, the second plane hit.
His body has not been found.
Practicing his faith was more than a once-a-week exercise for Mr. McGinley, who was thinking of becoming a priest while an undergraduate at Seton Hall University, where he met his wife, a nurse.
He graduated from Seton Hall with a bachelor's degree in theology, then started a career in business.
Married 12 years, he was the father of five and a soccer dad. He coached his children's soccer, baseball and ice hockey teams. He loved ice hockey and played it twice a week.
As serious as he was about his faith, he was equally passionate about his Irish heritage. Not only did he sing at Knights of Columbus dinners, he belted out Irish tunes at every party he attended or threw.
Every March 17, he would take the day off from work, get his children out of school, and take them and his wife to New York for the St. Patrick's Day parade.
Mr. McGinley was born in Philadelphia and, as a boy, lived for a short time in Roxborough, where his mother, Connie, grew up. His father, Daniel, is from Olney.
The morning of the hijackings, the elder McGinley underwent heart bypass surgery at a North Jersey hospital. He was not told of the attack until days later.
Mr. McGinley spent most of his youth in Haworth, N.J., not far from Ridgewood. He graduated from Northern Valley Regional High School in 1978, then went to Seton Hall.
He had worked for Keefe Bruyette for almost 10 years.
Mr. McGinley also is survived by sons Terrence, Peter, and Patrick; daughters Maddie and Anne; and two other brothers, Thomas and Michael.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 1 Passaic St., Ridgewood.
Memorial donations may be made to the Daniel F. McGinley Family Trust, c/o Margel & Associates, 28 Farview Terrace, Paramus, N.J. 07652.
So here's hoping there are just LOADS of us Catholics posting away here!
I run a web site for the parish where I worship and all Catholic links are appreciated. Send your faves to me please. Were I to be so bold as to make a suggestion I would copy some of the links from Old St. Patricks website, though I would never be so bold as to make such a recommendation without asking permission from Askel5 first. One note, the website seems to be down at the moment, but googles cache is still working.
