I have not read further on todays post, so I have no idea of any other responses on this, so here is what I read from it, and I will admit it was not the typical, clear and concise, but it may have been getting late,LOL
He was using a bumble bee as a metaphor, as one having teeth to bite with rather then using it's stinger, It sharpens it's teeth but then blacks them out so it appears to look harmless, while is still capable of inflicting much damage.
God does provide interpreters when necessary.LOl
A better example may have been a Lion which appeared to have no teeth or claws, but was actually ready to devour its prey.

I believe he is saying that like in Rundolf the red-nosed reinder pulling the teeth of the bumble, purgatory just makes sin appear less harmful but does not change the nature of sin
