I don't know of any church that takes something like Bible study or prayer meetings, and then tell you that you are sinning if you dont attend them.
OK, so your Church doesn't claim to have the power to bind and loose. Mine does. That doesn't change the point that you implicated all Catholics in "vain repetition" when your co-religionists also engage in (freely willed) repetition.
SD
All the apostles were given the authority to bind or loose, it's just that some chose not to use it as a bully pulpit for control.
Freely willed repetition, Lol, that sounds so SD.
We all fight vain repetition every day, I have no special words when I ask a blessing on a meal, and if you eat three times a day, how can you ask for a blessing and give thanks 21 different times a week, with out it becoming a Yada Yada, kiss kiss, type thing?
I simply say what comes out of my heart at the time, sometimes I start by saying "Dear Lord", sometimes by saying "our heavenly Father", sometimes "Our Father in heaven", and by starting with a different title every time, all the prayers then seem to lead in a different direction every time.
If I notice that I am repeating the same thing over and over, I purposely try to add new subjects into it so it requires me to consciously think of what Im saying,
Freely willed repetition then is good, if its not vain repetition, and if it is coming from your heart and not just your mouth.
My church does.
