Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
eh?????
Oh, really? Look at 6:11-14. Then look at the entirety of the book prior - the establishing of Wisdom. Finally, compare the decore described in Chapter 6 with the Ark. Interesting that for some reason we don't have a record of the prophet involved in this. Solomon modeled the Temple after the Ark in the wisdom God blessed him with. And God, knowing his heart made a covenant with him as it was being built - honoring the plan. We don't have a record of "thus saith the lord thou shalt build it x cubits." We have a record of God speaking to Solomon with foreknowledge of what Solomon was doing in honor to God. And we have him not only blessing the plan but making a covenant with Solomon over it. As Nathan had told David 'Do all that is in your heart for God is with you', so to did Solomon proceed to do the same as it was charged of him by God to do.
God ordained that Solomon should build the temple. And God was active in it. And when it was Complete, God honored it. This house was built by divine appointment. It was appointed before David died and before Solomon became King. Even before Solomon was born. God didn't tell ya'll to make images of people you'd never seen before in your lives. Nor did he tell any of your forefathers to make images of people they themselves had never before seen. Nor did such exist as examples prior. And why? Because the founder of our faith and his followers knew better. And their words condemn your acts as sin.
Ya'll forget, God knows you better than you do. That's why you'll never find the bones of Moses - ever. Lest we forget, why is it that God took care of Moses himself. Have you read it lately? You might ask Angelo why the Jews never erected a statue of moses. The appearance of Jesus didn't change these things. And Jesus himself reinforced the Commandments.
Let me send the return volley for you. 'You don't know what you're talking about.' -the word does. 'You can't prove...' - don't have to - you have to prove that the law changed - which you can't. 'God did it so we can' - No. You are not God that you can command against his laws and commandments. Now I know these aren't, likely, as full of vim as you might prefer; but, I repeat my questions. Can you answer them? Who are you to teach people against the Commandments of God? Who is your clergy to teach you as much? Where is your authority and witnessed commandment from God to make images of people you've never seen that people may pray to them in violation of both the Law and the Commandments? And don't tell us that they are decor for the temple. We as Christians now are the temple. God had One house, now he has many - the hearts of his followers. You fill your temple with inner darkness and expect God to honor it. You need to wake up. And how about answering the questions.
After the offering plates were passed, the pastor glanced down and noticed that someone had placed a $1,000 bill in the offering plate. He was so excited that he immediately shared his joy with his congregation and said he'd like to personally thank the person who placed the money in the plate.
A very quiet, elderly, saintly lady all the way in the back shyly raised her hand. The pastor asked her to come to the front. Slowly she made her way to the pastor. He told her how wonderful it was that she gave so much and in thanksgiving asked her to pick out three hymns. Her eyes brightened as she looked over the congregation, pointed to the three handsomest men in the building and said, "I'll take him and him and him!"
Don't need your links. I have a Bible that is very clear on the subject and you haven't made it over that hurdle yet. What makes you think your links matter a whit if the Bible is against you. You might as well go ask the Chinese their opinion on the subject - just as good as your links: Neither has any affect but to lie to would be believers and attempt to make God's word of none effect. If the Bible said what you want, the links wouldn't be needed.
Obedience to the word of God. I can be an artist without disobeying God. I don't see that I can be a portrait artist and be obedient in God's Commandments. Not my will; but His be done. That is the path.
Well ok. I'd be careful if I were you.
Oh, really, and why not? If a plant springs up bearing poisonous berries, one cannot prune and water it and expect it to produce tomatoes. One must remove it at the root and plant tomatoes. Therefore if the Church produces bad fruit, it must be shredded to the foundation and replanted - this is why God judged the world with a flood. It is also why the new covenant was made.
Why you of course You know, I always thought that this statement (2 Peter 1:20-21) was an assurance for us that the prophets of old who wrote the scriptures did not write THEIR OWN INTERPRETATION of the revelation God gave them; rather, they wrote exactly what the Spirit wanted them to write... Yes they had the HS enlightening them but, what is your point? If not that we are all given the HS, in infallibility. Now if the HS enlightens all of us the same way as the prophets(It would have to or we would not be able to understand on our own) Then why do we need the Books to begin with? If you don't belive that we all have the HS guiding us perfectly in reading the Scripture then you agree with me. If you agree with me what was your point in your response?
But let us discuss this personal instruction by the Holy Spirit. Anyone want to tell how we know if/when the Holy Spirit will illumine our minds to correctly comprehend Scripture?
When we accept His will and die to ourselves? If I, in a state of humility, don't belive I'm capable of understanding Scripture on my own, could that be an indication of the HS illuminating my mind?
How sad. You really believe God doesn't want you to use your gift, a gift he gave you.
Sounds like a command to make images to me.
And again Exodus 27:31 ...make a veil..in skilled work shall it be made, with cherubim...
First, the Church, being the Body of Christ, does not produce bad fruit. Second, the Body of Christ was "shredded" once for all on Calvary.
The Holy Orthodox Church maintains this strict prohibition against divination, sorcery, soothsaying, and necromancy (properly defined). Why don't you learn to read Greek? It might help you shake some of your narrow preconceptions about the meaning of Holy Scripture.
"Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast borne the savior of our souls. Beseech thou Him to have mercy upon us," neither seeks to foretell the future nor to magically influence. It asks the Theotokos to pray for us.
What is very clear is that Christ said, "You must eat My Flesh and drink My Blood." and "My Flesh is TRUE food and My Blood is TRUE drink." You are just like Pharaoh, blind and with such a hard heart. You think you have it all figured out when, in reality, you don't have the slightest clue.
You say my links are worthless and that all you need is the Bible. If you would have listened to even a third of what I provided, you would have realized that the whole talk was an exposition on the Sriptures. But you don't want to hear anything, not even Scripture, that might disrupt your comfy, little worldview. Once again, we see that you are not secure in the knowledge you think you have.
"Take, eat; this is my Body". Christ said it, I believe it. It's too bad that you prefer to wallow in a 16th century heresy rather than embrace the Apostolic Faith.
Pray for John Paul II
Also if you take Ex 20:4, and De 4:16 to mean you can't make ANY image of a man or woman, than you have to include photos as well, and tv and film. They are all made by us and they are all images. I find it odd that you say you likes the Ten Commandments but you wouldn't like a painting or statue of Moses.
I wonder how ALL the other Proddies take your interpretation of Scripture?
Thank you for proving my point, Mr. "All I need is in the Bible".
And how about answering the questions.
The answers you seek reside in the Incarnation.
Pray for the Vicar of Christ
