The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Acts 20:32
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Acts 26:18
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Romans 8:16-17
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Ephesians 1:11-14
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Galatians 3:29
And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Ephesians 3:6
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

John 14:2-3
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Hebrews 11:16
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Matthew 25:34
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

1 Peter 1:3-4
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

1 Corinthians 2:9-10
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Colossians 3:23-24
And whatsoever ye do, do heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Psalms 37:34
Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

These are all passages that talk of receiving an inheritance or reward in heaven. Eternal life is given to all equally, but inheritance and reward speak of differing amounts. When you inherit something, it is usually unique for you. So when a loved one dies, they leave an inheritance for those in their will. That inheritance usually differs from member to member and is usually based on how they acted and behaved while their beneficiary lived. A good son will get a better inheritance than a "bad" son. Or a good servant better than an unfaithful one. I have no idea what the inheritance is, but I believe it has to do with the Kingdom. There are parables that speak of ruling over cities and greater responsibility based on how we are responsible and faithful in our time on the earth. The free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23), but your reward or inheritance is based on what you do with your life while on this earth.

He was made positionally lower than the angels during the Incarnation.

What is it about being made perfect that doesn't mean imperfection in the first place?

Will you be present with the Lord in your imperfection?

No, when I die (if I die) the transition from imperfection to perfection, from the Earth to God's Presence will be instantaneous.

Is that even possible? Won't you need to be perfected before you enter the Lord's Presence?

See the response above.

Shakesphere is not God:)

I have read alot of your posts, and some of them make me very uncomfortable, and I'm very hesitant to get into a discussion with you, nothing personal.

But I believe what Paul is saying here is we need to be careful of our lives so we will be a good witness for Christ. Look at the way some on this thread react to Baptist drinking. It is not actually that drinking is a sin, but it does ruin a persons witness. People won't take them seriously. We can be saved, but if our witness is not good we will loose rewards in heaven because we will be ineffective in carrying out Gods work on earth.

I realize I'll probably be attacked because I am about to post something being taught (my words) to Catholic youth concerning Indulgences and Purgatory. Let's just how many will say this is not "official" RCC teaching.
------------------------------------------------------------

The Church's Treasury of Grace The Catholic Church is able to grant indulgences because she draws on the infinite merits of Christ, Mary, and all the saints. Blessed Mary of Quito, a Spanish nun, saw in a vision a vast treasure, which, God explained to her, symbolized the graces and merits of Jesus (the treasure of the Church!) from which indulgences are taken. These graces and merits can be obtained by anyone who fulfills the conditions, usually quite easy, for receiving an indulgence. People who don't bother to take advantage of indulgences are like travellers passing through a field full of precious jewels, who don't even take the trouble to bend over and fill their pockets, even though they know they will need these treasures when they reach their destination.

. . . . . .

DID YOU KNOW?? Although you can't apply the indulgence to a living person (they have to get their own indulgences!) you can ask God to apply your indulgence to relieve the Holy Souls in Purgatory. And don't forget to ask the Holy Souls to pray for you when they get to Heaven; you'll be gaining friends in high places!

Catholic Youth Networking

Catholic Youth

Why let this "infinite treasury" go to waste. It is worth a lot of money.

Matthew 11

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death,...

He was made positionally lower than the angels during the Incarnation.

Don't forget that He lowered Himself to this level by choice, not by sin.

That is pretty much the way I viewed indulgences. When my mother passed away 11 yrs. ago, my dad told their friends instead of flowers to send money in my mothers name to the Pink Sisters in St. Louis. He recieved back notices telling him that people had sent money in and that mom would recieve indulgences for the prayers they would say in her name. The more money people sent the more prayers were said, and if some one sent in a really huge amount, she got a whole mass said in her name. Of Course I don't know how much you get for each prayer and mass, but more money bought more prayers.

Sorry to the Catholics for relating this but that is the way it was.

Purgatory pulls the teeth of the bumble in the eyes of the unknowing - they can't see the bumble just put blackout on his teeth after sharpening them...

This has to win Sentence of the Month. I defy anyone here to tell me what this means.

No taker here. It is the Sentence of the Month. However, can you imagine Satan with blacked out teeth?

The Catholic teaching seems just fine. Now let's see what conclusions you draw from it.

No you are not making progress, I believe we are to avoid silly arguments. 2 Tim. 2:23.

I know I will get alot of argument about this, but drinking is not a sin, drunkenness is. That would be gluttony. Drinking is viewed as wrong because of the PRESEPTION it gives now-a-days. In this day and age if you are seen drinking, people will be skeptical of you when you try to tell them about Christianty.

For example: We have done a bible study with the guy who shoes my horses, he is a "real" cowboy, he say he knows what we have taught him is right and that he should accept it and start living right, but he is not ready to quit drinking beer. See, to him if you drink beer you are not a Christian.

You will be judged on how well you abide by God's will.

Explain how this statement in not working one's way to heaven.

Our faith is made real by our actions. If our actions don't match our words, our words are a lie. The goal of our faith is to allow ourselves to become workers of God.

The work we do is not ours, but rather our participating with Jesus, letting Him work through us.

So if some people from non-catholic religions are going to heaven you believe there is more then one way to heaven. Explain John 14:6 Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life no man cometh unto the Father but by me. Sounds like one way to me.

When I said "non-Catholic" religions I was talking of other Christians. Perhaps I shouldn't have said "religion." But since you brought it up, we believe that God's mercy can extend to those who through no fault of their own are ignorant of Christ. Their salvation may still be acheived because of Christ.

No.

*Why do I feel that I am walking into a trap?*

"[15]He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. [16]His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate." - Ps 7:15-16
