The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Wow, angelo....You must have to read through literally hundreds of "neverending" posts on a regular basis just to keep up! This thread must have a cult following (pardon the expression).

LOL! Its been moving very fast the last week or so, with the addition of several new people participating. I'll admit it is hard to keep up when that is the case. We don't always move at quite this rapid a pace.

Ah. Let's see. Cuz Peter mostly hung out in the Suburbs? :-)

LOL. The apostles respected each other's areas of responsibility. The apostles spoke to their congregations of what other apostles taught; but, Paul would not visit places where another apostle had already preached without an invite - and then would not butt into the affairs of the teaching of that congregation. Paul didn't go to Peter's congregation to tell them that Peter was doing wrong. He straightened Peter out and then let Peter handle his own congregations.

I've brought up this issue before; but, I'd never really tied the date that Romans was written into the mix. Paul would never poke his nose in and undermine the authority of another minister of the Gospel. When he'd given Charge of the Church at Ephesus over to Timothy, his letters were sent to Timothy, not to the Ephesians.

The scriptures tell us Peter wasn't in Rome. The circumstances we know from scriptures tell us he wasn't in Rome. And this is one more of those circumstances. The letter is not addressed to Peter. Peter is not greeted in the letter. And for that matter is never once mentioned in the letter. Peter is, in fact, only ever mentioned in ONE of Paul's writings and that is Galations. Acts tells us a story right up to the time of Paul's imprisonment in Rome. Which fails to mention anything so major as a Disastrous falling out between Peter and Paul. And Everything we know about how the Apostles (and specifically Paul) respected one another's territory, it is inconcievable that Paul would Write directly to the congregation of another apostle. It would be a gross abuse - exasperated by a failure to even mention the Apostle whose congregation it's "supposed" to be.

It's amazing to me just how much these guys have abused the notion of Common sense and stood the world on it's ear to make a claim they would rather not have to prove. Any way, I'll shut up and let someone try to explain this one away. I'm starting to get offended over having my intelligence insulted yet again.

I thought this was amusing. Over on the Super Bowl thread, when it went over 1000 replies someone asked if it was the longest thread ever on FR, then another replied: not even close _______ thread went over 1500 replies. I guess they haven't been paying very close attention.

LOL! This is the longest single thread, although I suspect the "Freoples" series has surpassed us in total number of posts. They start up new threads regularly, which keeps them from getting over more than a few thousand to several thousand posts. The "Freoples" are a group who came over en masse from Lucianne.com during one of the periodic purges that take place over there. They started an introductory thread to introduce them to freeperdom, and its been ongoing ever since.

That is interesting and I haven't heard that before. Is this derived from Scripture (if so where?) or some other source?

It is scriptural, both in the sense of forgiving one another, and receiving forgiveness from God. A few cites, first for human-human forgiveness, and then God-human forgiveness:

`Say to Joseph, Forgive, I pray you, the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.' And now, we pray you, forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father." (Genesis 50:17)

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

To me, it just seems logical. I don't understand in what sense one could forgive another for what they have done, if they haven't repented of the wrongdoing and asked forgiveness. You might be able to put it behind you, to no longer carry it with you, but 'forgiveness' seems to require a party doing the forgiving, and a party being forgiven.

If Peter was in Rome from 42 ad to 67 ad, why did Paul need to write a lengthy letter to the Romans in 57AD?

There are some historians who cast doubt on whether there was any general, organized persecution of Christians in Rome around the time it is suggested that Peter was martyred there.

I just happened to see this ..I have considered the "laws " God gave to the Jews ,and how all those dietary and health rules preserved the nation ..As we now know how many diseases are transfered in the blood.. another of my favorites as a nurse is the way they delt with rashes..a time to assess away from the community.

Now you do know Angelo I will say God gave them those rules to preserve the nation of Israel for the day the Savior Jesus would be born:>)

There are some historians who cast doubt on whether there was any general, organized persecution of Christians in Rome around the time it is suggested that Peter was martyred there.

And that's the trouble that's gotten into by messin around with the scriptures and following philosophies and prideful desires instead of God's will. Ultimately, Jesus came to seal a new covenant because Israel had broken and ruined the first one. God was angered and scattered them. People don't realize, fully, the significance of what happened. God freed his chosen people and they turned from him. He corrected them and led them to the promised land and they turned from Him. He gave them a King, and they turned from Him. They perverted themselves and His temple in the Holy land and he scattered them abroad back into captivity. As in Eden so in the land of Milk and Honey - the chosen were booted out.

God said if men would not praise Him, the rocks would cry out. Under the new covenant, the gentiles are doing just that as joint heirs. And much of Israel still will not hear. And as the old covenant was perverted; so too is the new. I hope people wake up before it's too late; because, it almost is - too late.

Yep, I know I was one of them, but I came over here about a month before most of them did, I could see it all coming to a head and I got sick of everything that was going on over there. I posted there for a couple of years, right after Trixie started it up. I posted to the Freeples thread for a little while but it got clickish (sp?) and inane in a hurry. But I don't doubt that they've got us beat on quantity, be have quality and quantity here. LOL

I broke my pledge of not rooting for either team about halfway through the first quarter.

Jumpin' on the bandwagon at the last minute (almost), eh? But if you rooted for the Pats, how did they win? To me the Pats almost seemed predestined to win the whole thing this year, everything just fell right into place all along the way, just as in did for the Rams in '99. Just wait til next year.

The confusion is on the part of folks who try to divide Jesus in two, the human Jesus and the divine Jesus, and say that Mary was the mother of the first but not the second.

So Mary was the mother of the Logos? She would have to pre-exist God then, wouldn't she? I think you are the ones that are confused.

It led to a combination of church and state which should never happen.

Is there any chance that you are letting your "founding documents" focus bend your thinking on this? What was Israel if not a combination of church and state?

Was the holding penalty a good call?

Perhaps the easiest call the refs have had all through the playoffs.

The Patriots played to win, rather than to avoid losing.

And the Rams prevent defense helped quite nicely in the final 1:30. Better team won yesterday.
