The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

"Vehicle and building design.."
No wonder you are working on the house . From what I have seen about the "vehicle veneration " that goes on here in the south, especially about trucks , I would be very careful .:>)

And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? (Luke 1:43)

Question. How did the Jews for thousands of years show respect to Moses for the great work God wraught through him?

What do you think about the Lincoln Memorial ?
This is not a trick question . I would like to know what you and others think about it, in light of the "graven Image" prohibition .

And NOT to call her Theotokos is to ignore what stress Luke placed on the event and her role in it. She is at least the equal of Abraham and Moses.

LOL. What's that saying? 'Standin 'tween a man an his truck in Kentucky is like standin 'tween a man an his wife in Texas: Don't do it'

It's good to see you don't ignore events in the book of Luke. One wonders why the rest of the Bible is so unimportant to ya.

If it was you, and your mother was in need of being cared for, and you had non believing brothers who you didn't trust since they didn't believe in God, and you found out you had a month to live, who would you turn her over to, your brothers, or a fellow catholic friend you knew and loved and he also knew and loved your mother?

It doesn't matter what the person in this situation thinks. The brothers have an obligation under the Law to care for their mother. If you have evidence from scripture that the brothers didn't believe in God, please present it.

angelo, I didn't say that Jesus brothers didn't believe in God, I used that in an anology to make a situation were I brought it up to modern times with one of us.

You're still on that, "'till she had brought forth her firstborn' must mean Joseph had relations with her after she gave birth," aren't you? Facts just can't get in the way of your, "Mary did not remain a virgin" dogma, can they? From earlier:

I'd actually think your position were possible but then I wouldn't know what to do with Matthew 1;24. Ya know that verse right in front of 1;25? The two together? Its called "context". Kinds of makes this cut and paste gobligook you posted immaterial.

You think that we think that Joseph and Mary weren't married?

You can be someone's bodyguard without bothering to get married.

OK, Steven. Here's the thing. I can entirely see where your view of Matthew 1:25 is possible. I can see where a reasonable person could take this statememtn and the mention of Jesus' "brothers" and acheive your position.

Can you at all imagine that the Catholic position is plausible? That Mary was a consecrated virgin and Joseph took her as his wife not for sex, but for protection? That the references to "brothers" and "sisters" might be ambiguous given the language and culture? Is it possible?

I sincerely can't.

"Took unto him his wife" is the KJV. This refers to marriage, not sex.

"In the pain of delivering my firstborn child, destiny brought me to the end of life." For another epitaph of the same sort, from Leontopolis, see Biblical Archaeology Review, Sept/Oct, 1992, p. 56.

So she died, then stuck her arm out of the grave and gave us this bit of wisdom huh?

Please explained just how she accomplished this feat.

And while we're at it, give me a sentence using a mother who had only one child, and she referred to him as her first born.

SD flunked this many moons ago.

Of course not. Is there Scripture somewhere that demands sex before a marriage is considered valid? Does that mean if an old fart couple gets married and he's impotent that it doesn't count?

Don't forget the Orthodox! On this, Protestants are distinctly in the minority.

Jesus was in the minority. Truth is not subject to a vote.

This is nonsensical. Don't you think a woman possibly dying in childbirth couldn't decide what she wanted as an epitaph? It doesn't mean she had to enscribe it herself.

And while we're at it, give me a sentence using a mother who had only one child, and she referred to him as her first born.

How 'bout this one? >"In the pain of delivering my firstborn child, destiny brought me to the end of life."

You haven't raised any valid objections to it. People plan for their epitaphs all the time. In fact I bet you that hardly any of the epitaphs found in history were actually carved in the granite by the actual dead person.

SD flunked this many moons ago.

I have a firstborn. If I were Jewish I would have needed to take some partridges or something to the Temple for the firstborn sacrifice. I wouldn't have to wait to see if I had a second child first. This is just absurd.
