The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Be careful lest we give any ground to Catholic "Mary" worship! After all, she never stopped anyone either

I don't think anybody ever tried to worship Mary in the New Testament. That came later when the adjective catholic church became the noun catholic church. Oops, did I say worship? I meant venerate. :-)

Don't try to use logic on this. This sort of thing is why I prefer a straightforward monotheism.

Actually, me too!

How many beings did Stephen witness to? Could they be described as Father and Son? I rest my case on Stephens words and reject yours.

Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

"Click on MS-DOS Prompt from the Windows Start menu. At the "C:\windows" prompt type "CD\" and hit enter Type "MD photos" and enter to make a directory for your photos Type "CD photos" to move to that directory Place the CD in your drive (we are assuming it is the "D:" drive, substitute the appropriate letter if not) Type "XCOPY D:*.*" and enter to copy all of the files from the CD into your photos directory Type "EXIT" to end the MS-DOS session" SD

I'm impressed. You were about 5 years old when PC-Dos was developed. (I was in the computer field from the very beginning - long before there was any kind of assembly language). I loved PC-Dos which became MS-Dos. Even back then Microsoft was a tough nut. For a short while there was DR-Dos, as superior to MS-Dos as Apple OS was to Windows 3.0. Microsoft destroyed the DR-Dos competition by making deals with the major PC vendors. The same tactics they use today. There are still things which Dos does better than Windows but its' days are limited. Bye Bye to Dos.

I have finally gotten used to windows but I still run some Dos applications, in particular, Paradox Dbase. It is much faster and more stable than the damn Windows version. In fact, everything is more stable in DOS than Windows but Microsoft has decided to bury it.

Then you pick Stephen's understanding as you are able to understand it. Why?

What what you say if you picked the psalmist: "Where is God not?"

And what would you pick if you understood the first Chapter of John's Gospel.

All of you knowing is not capable of putting into words, all of your knowing cannot be gotten from what others put into their words.

What does the transcendent transcend?

Regarding the primacy of Peter, that Protestants don't get it when a Pope such as Paul VI goes before the WCC and says: "I am Peter." But what the role of Peter? You can seen that of the Twelve he was the leader, the spokesman, but he was very unlike Innocent the III who was chained to the throne of Caesar. When you have not been looking, the popes have stepped down from that throne and have taken up Peter's travels again. But you are so caught up in your anti-Romanism that you can't see that the pope is no longer a Roman.

You guys are hung up on the word "worship." That's because you have become encased in democratic manners too long. The English worship many things less holy than Mary, even ordiary magistrates.

Were does this fit in with the unbroken line of leadership of the popes?

So what's your objection to the Trinity? All 3 persons of the Godhead are mentioned in the passage and all are said to be God (the same God) in the Scriptures, yet here they are spoken of seperately. That is the Triune God, as revealed to us.

And their doing so makes it right for you to worship Mary?

Put it down long ago, Mack.

Still the question is valid - and, I think, valuable to ask each other.

I believe the reason the power was taken away at their death is because if a certain Church or group of people or a person could still perform all the miracles of the apostles today, you would know exactly where Christ Church was, and I don't think Christ wants any one Church to be looked on as the only true Church.

This is an interesting point. It might be the unconscious reason why I believe there is more than one path to salvation. Maybe we are meant to do some searching on our own and take an active part in our salvation.

BTW You have mail.

The line was developed through revisionist history in the first place and smashed to smithereens several times during its' glorious run.

IOW There never was one in the first place.

And what would you pick if you understood the first Chapter of John's Gospel.

I believe I do understand it. Let me clarify a little more. Stephen is an eyewitness and notice so is the writer, it is stated twice there were two beings in Heaven. This is two witnesses comparing to words that John wrote which are by any standard very symbolic in context. If you can explain everything in these verses I would be very impressed.

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

As I stated, to say something is with something and yet is that something is on the surface redundant and illogical. Therefore I deem it symbolic and unprecedented in the Gospels. It alone is not sufficient to base a doctrine as illogical and unfounded as the trinity. Below is a quote from revelation, will you accept it as proof of two beings?

Revelation 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

How many Lords here? Incidentally at the right hand just as Stephen witnesses centuries later.

Psalm 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

a straightforward monotheism.

And pray tell what THAT means. One gets the god of Voltaire, whose chief characteristics is that He never interfers in the affairs of men, much less shows Himself.

Stephen is an eyewitness But we don't really know what Stephen actually said, much less what he actually saw.
