The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Jesus himself took his nature, Jesus did this himself. Jesus pre-existed his humanity but he was not his own father! He told us to pray to the Father, not himself and likened himself to our brother, or priest but not father. We are not to worship Jesus (NATE4). Am I the only one that sees the great injustice this doctrine does to so many scriptures? So powerful a doctrine that an adherent would say "Yes, God is mediator to Himself. Yes, He prays to Himself." Things are bad but please someone tell me they're not that bad.

Hebrews 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Check out this site here.

I gotta say, ksen, that those who want to paint Mary as a pagan idol brought into Catholicism run the risk of sawing off the branch they're sitting on. A similar argument can be made about Jesus being a variation of the dying and resurrected god of pagan mythology, smuggled into the monotheism of Judaism.

...to talk at you....

I'm sorry you have such a low opinion of preaching. I guess Paul was right to call it foolishness.

Are Mac users even allowed on this site? Somebody should let JohnRob know. Maybe that's why the place keeps crashing, to many Libs on Macs trying trying to get on at once.

Easy there with that liberal garbage, ksen. I'm on my Mac today. But I'll bet you didn't even notice the difference, did ya? ;o)

But perhaps you'll like this better ... After you have an image on CD, insert the CD into your D:/ drive. Double-click on "My Computer" to open that window. Double-click on the CD icon to access the CD. When you have located the file(s) you wish to copy, right click on it and select "Copy." Find the area on your harddrive ("My Computer") that you want to copy the image to, right click in that window and select "Paste."

Howabout:

"Click on MS-DOS Prompt from the Windows Start menu.
At the "C:\windows" prompt type "CD\" and hit enter
Type "MD photos" and enter to make a directory for your photos
Type "CD photos" to move to that directory
Place the CD in your drive (we are assuming it is the "D:" drive, substitute the appropriate letter if not)
Type "XCOPY D:*.*" and enter to copy all of the files from the CD into your photos directory
Type "EXIT" to end the MS-DOS session" SD

Worshipping Mary would be idolotry. Asking for her intercession would not.

And some of your good catholic buddies here have already posted some of your Church fathers as stating they are pretty much one in the same for the catholic. The distinction you draw is nonsense. You demand we give hher such overwhelming adoration along with praying to her?

You worship her and your word games will never convince me otherwise!

I was smiling when I typed that. Knowing that after how many thousand posts, even an idea like the Divine you know what is not novel.

Hi 47! Its not really a matter of arguing over denominations. Rather, it is an discussion of scripture, tradition, history and interpretation. Denominations come into the discussion only insofar as they represent viewpoints on the above. And these things are interesting and eminently worth discussing. Feel free to jump in anytime with your thoughts!

Well, your posts do seem so much cooler than ours. ;-)

No wait, I have another one. Take two:

Well, they do accuse you of thinking different. ;-)

(Ugh, that grates on me. If it's all the same (and it's not) I will think differently, thank you.)

lets forget for the moment the praying to Himself and mediator to Himself stuff. The wording of that is confusing and probably false so lets start with John 1 again.

John 1:1-2
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was <*2> with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
I think we can both agree that the Word here is Christ. It also says that He (Christ, the Word) was God and was in the beginning with God. Notice the wording here. He WAS God, yet He was in the beginning WITH God. This is obviously pointing to the fact that there were one in the same, yet different.

John 1:14
"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us..."

Now we have established that the Word was God and here it says that the Word (God) became flesh. So clearly God became flesh and dwelt among us as Christ.

Now you can post your quote from Hebrews but it doesn't nullify this passage from John. How do you interpret the "Word was God" and the "Word became flesh" statements.

I demand nothing of you. Do what you want.

You worship her and your word games will never convince me otherwise!

You do not know me from Adam and certainly do not know my heart. I will not carry on this kind of conversation with you.

Ugh! I'm glad I'm not the only one that is bothered by that. The way the advertising industry misuses the English language is disgusting.

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", could you lose the pants and earrings? "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", sign here and God will bless you tenfold! "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", by and by there are three Gods in one. "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", ever heard of Joseph Smith? "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", Ghana is nice this time of year. "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", I have grieviously sinned with those women, but I'm still your pastor. "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", three Hail Mary's, three Our Fathers and the Apostles Creed.

ROFLOL! Bravo! Beautifully done.

Eewwwww, DOS!!!! Man, that's ugly! ;o)

And yet, I am convinced that if I type that it will actually copy the files. I don't need to see the files flying from folder to folder. Just do it. ;-)

It's one of my talents that so impressed my wife-to-be. I could sit down and type stuff and make things happen on her PC. Helped her install DOS WordPerfect she borrowed from work.

And don't forget the ancient god who also wanted us to eat a special cookie. Mithra, isn't it?

I happen to be something of an amateur grammarian myself. My favorite thing is when folks try to sound educated by using "whom," but they don't know when they should or shouldn't and use it wrongly. "Look, dude, if you don't know how to use it, just use "who" all the time. Most people do."

We've even had a couple of Jewish people come....of course they left as Baptists. ;^)

I know you added the 'smiley', but I find this sad. Jewish people who convert to another religion, be it Christianity, buddhism or whatever, are those who have been completely secularized and who have little or no knowledge of their own spiritual patrimony. I do hope that they find a way to grow closer to God. But it saddens me that they have left the faith of their fathers. And it saddens me that there are those who rejoice over the 'deliverance' of such Jews from their covenant with God.

Not with our fathers did the LORD make this covenant, but with us, who are all of us here alive this day. (Deuteronomy 5:3)

Nor is it with you only that I make this sworn covenant, but with him who is not here with us this day as well as with him who stands here with us this day before the LORD our God. (Deuteronomy 29:14-15)
