WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The FBI has looked into a Denver truck school where up to 35 Arab male students paid in cash and did not seek job placement assistance afterward, TIME magazine reported on Sunday.
Federal Bureau of Investigations agents are trying to head off possible future attacks after the Sept. 11 air assaults on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The attacks killed about 5,400 people.
Some authorities fear truck bombs might be used in the future, either with traditional explosives or with hazardous or chemical cargo.
The magazine said a truck school executive tipped off the FBI that between 25 and 35 Arab men attended the school in Denver during the past two years. They did not speak English and each group used the same interpreter.
TIME said the men all received driver's licenses, even though English proficiency is a requirement.

One more reason why the FBI's head of counterintelligence should be fired. Will no one be held accountable?

How does one take the test at the Registry of Motor Vehicles if one does not speak/read English?

Ashcroft was asked about this today. He shucked and jived. Did the Reno rag: under investigation, we are looking into everything...blah...blah...blah.
Bush is doing great. Ashcroft and Thompson may have to go. Nobody wants to hear this crap. We need people who will either tell us the facts or tell us they can't tell us the facts. Americans respect either. They don't respect song and dance men.

There's a big truck driving school just north of Orlando, Florida right along SR 441 (Orange Blossom Trail) in Lockhart, also. Hope they check that one out, too. LOTS of middle-eastern types are in the Orlando area.

How hard is it to drive a HasMat truck? Why do you need to go to school to do it? If you're going to hijack it, why would you need a hasmat license? Why not send one guy to school and get him to tell the rest? Sounds fishy.

Guliani for AG. After all those miserable years with Reno we need a straight talking kick-a$$ general in charge.

I agree. Ashcroft has been a major disappointment. He doesn't seem to understand that, now that he has the job, he can stop kowtowing to the Senate Democrats. The hearings are over. He's supposed to be working for America, not for Teddy Kennedy.

Good point! Also, why would anyone travel halfway around the world to learn how to drive a truck? Don't other countries have trucks? Do we send people to Singapore to learn how to type?

Re: questions about learning to drive trucks and hazmat certification - it seems they (mid-easterns) were trying to stay under the radar a bit. Plus, maybe they thought because of what they were carrying they should know how to handle it so they got it where it was going "safely?" Plus, in order to pick up some products, I believe they would have to have all this licensing in order.

It wasn't reported ASAP because they didn't want to stop the cash cow. When they stopped coming they went psst...

Sorry.....I should have added the "sarcasm" tag.

Hazmat...may not be the angle. These are, in some ways, simple people with an eye toward primitive ways. A fully loaded tractor trailer holds something like 20 to 30 tons of...whatever. Maybe the Class I license is enough.

If you want to find out where the Arab truckers are, just put the word out on the trucker's CB channels, and you can find the exact location of every diaperhead trucker in the country is within an hour. The truckers know EVERYTHING and they're very patriotic!
