Handgun Sales Up 500%
Fox News | 10/14/01

Posted on 10/14/2001 1:51:50 PM PDT by pabianice

Fox News reporting that, since 11 September, US handgun sales are up an impressive 500%. And that's just the legal ones; black market sales must be through the roof. Rifle sales must be off the scale. That gargling sound you hear is The Brady Bunch stroking-out.

If there is one thing the attack on the US has done is put the gun-grabbers' backs to the wall. Will be fascinating to see what new lies the anti-self defense crowd concoct in the next few years as more terrorist attacks almost certainly occur and more Americans die.

Ah! The Desert Eagle. That is a great weapon.

The only reason that I don't own one of those is that my hands are too small. A ParaOrdnance .45 ACP is the maximum I can reasonably shoot. For Magnum calibers I go to revolvers.

Is a "hnadgun" a gun that is loaded with family jewel seeking bullets?

I think it's military nomenclature. Since an "HBAR" M-16 is a heavy barrel M-16, I have to assume that an hnadgun is specifically designed as anti "heavy nad" artillery. The more amply endowed male members of FR may need to be careful.

Mine has the parkerized finish...one of the last one's actually manufactured in Israel before the design was bought from IMI by Magnum Research. The grip frame is extremely sensitive to corrosion, but it's nothing regular care and maintenance can't overcome. I've also added the Hogue rubber grips.

As far as reliability is concerned, I haven't had a problem, and I now live in an area where overpenetration is not a concern. It will occaissionally eject spent casings directly at the shooter's forehead, but I suppose that's a possibility with any firearm. It is one of two firearms I consider essential for household defense, and keep loaded next to the bed. Of course, their usage presupposes the notion that my Shepherd has failed, and that is, in my estimation, possible, but unlikely.

I was in Wal-Mart today and heard over the intercom, "[name of associate] to sporting goods for a firearms purchase." Warmed the heart!

Most times this problem can be fixed by replacing the extractor. At least that is my experience in various pistols.

Another tip. If you have two magazines and one of them is jamming, try switching the magazine springs and/or followers. Worked for me.

Unfortunately, we here in New York will remain defenseless because our "esteemed" politicians would rather be hung by their toenails than allow its citizenry to arm itself.

I'm from New York but now live in Florida. I know someone who still lives there who has four measly bullets left for his piece because he can't purchase any more rounds. He's not even allowed to buy friggin' bullets without having the proper Nazi registration papers.

If I moved back there I would immediately be considered a criminal just by virtue of owning the collection I have which is perfectly legal in here in Florida.

It's gotten much worse since I was a kid. I used to bring my .22 to school for the shooting club when I was in junior high (a little over 20 years ago).

"although sometimes cases don't eject properly when the gun is cold."

I think this may be an inherent design issue with autos made to shoot revolver (rimmed) cartridges. I remember my dad had the S&W version of the Model 39, designed to shoot .38 special (don't remember the model number they hung on it.) Extremely accurate...you could shoot the balls of a gnat at 25m, but it was very unpredictable as to where it would launch the brass. OTOH, I have a stainless Colt 1991A1 in .40 S&W that groups its spent cases tighter than it does shot bullets! I can empty three or four mags, do a right face, take one step forward, and pick up every last casing!

US handgun sales are up an impressive 500%.

In other related news: Sarah Brady is currently going through a nervous breakdown. (Maybe not, but I'd to think so. I'll bet she bummed out to hear this.)

Been through these drills...the Eagle is a gas operated, rotating bolt design that, mechanically, has far more in common with an M16 than an M1911. The .50 AE is a rebated rim cartridge, where the headstamp is actually of a smaller diamter than the projectile. This allows the same bolt to be used for both the .50 AE and .44 mag, by simply swapping barrels and magazines. I don't regard it as a design flaw, so much as a necessary evil.

.50 AE and .44 mag. I am envious.

The largest auto I can fire reliably is a .45 Para.

My house gun is a (pre-kneepad) S&W .44 mag.

For shooters with medium to small hands, a magnum revolver is a viable option.

I didn't go over and check, but I would not be surprised. I just enjoyed the announcement. I'd never heard that type of announcement before. It was as if they wanted to inform the entire store of the purchase. [Very gun-friendly around here, liberals 'from away' notwithstanding.]

I always liked the .41 and .44 mag S&Ws. The best home defense weapon is one you are comfortable with...

Dad was cop and maintained an armory in his bedroom closet...he didn't need trigger locks or a safe, 'cuz we kids knew he'd beat our a$$es into next Sunday if we ever got caught poking around his guns without permission!

As a child, I grew up in total security knowing dad was there, armed and ready. In retrospect, perhaps that is the root cause of our society's children's insecurity. Father's not prepared to defend their families.

I spent yesterday afternoon at the private range I belong to with my 2 Berettas (Nickel 84F & Black 92FS) going through a few boxes of 9mm and 0.380 reload ammo.

I just want to say THANK YOU to the Freeper that posted the "Infinite Justice Rod & Gun Club" bullseye of Osama-Yomama. You saved me a few bucks on targets!

I downloaded it, blew it up in Photoshop, made it 300 dpi, printed it out, and ran off 200 copies on the copier at work for free distribution to the guys and gals. Needless to say, it was a big hit with all the others at the range that demanded a few copies to "ventilate with extreme predjudice" once they saw what I was shooting at!!!!!!!!! LOL
