Sarah Brady: Tighter Gun Laws Needed to Prevent Terrorism and
Strengthen National Security

Violence, 202-898-0792
WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Sarah Brady, chair of the
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, today issued the following
statement regarding the U.S. Senate's passage last night of
anti-terrorism legislation.
"With passage of this legislation, the Senate has taken a
significant step toward ensuring that law enforcement has the tools
needed to investigate and deter terrorist attacks. But there is
one glaring omission - nothing in this bill will close the gaps in
our federal firearm laws that allow terrorists to amass their
deadly arsenals. The House should address this failure when it
takes up the legislation today.
"We know from recent terrorism investigations that these
dangerous criminals will exploit any opening in our laws to buy
weapons, including firearms. In some cases, they have gone to gun
shows and bought firearms and ammunition from unlicensed sellers
who were not required to conduct criminal background checks.
"Incredibly, our soldiers could be gunned down by foreign
terrorists armed with firearms purchased at American gun shows. We
can, and must, close loopholes in our firearm laws by requiring a
background check every time a firearm is sold. A criminal
background check is a minor inconvenience for gun buyers -- most
are completed within minutes -- but is a key tool for protecting
public safety. We must also ensure that there are records of all
firearm sales so that law enforcement officials can track
terrorists, trace their weapons, and know what threats they are
facing when they attempt to apprehend these criminals.
"Any anti-terrorism proposal that fails to address easy access
to firearms and retention of records is clearly inadequate. If we
need more careful screening of people entering our country, surely
we need to check the background of people buying guns once they are
here. And it makes no sense to crack down on terrorists laundering
money, if we allow them to use their cash to buy weapons with
impunity. The Congress and the Administration should work together
to make this counter-terrorism package more comprehensive."

Well, I guess when you've got only one note, you sing it no matter what. Idiocy. What we need are more guns, and vigilance among the citizenry.

Using the events of 9/11/01 to further her agenda is a despicable act.

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Bang

She is absolutely correct. Think about all the gun control on the pilots of the hijacked planes. It sure prevented the pilots from unnecessarily killing one of the hijackers.

Since when are they selling full auto AK-47's at gun shows?
Sarah, I take it you've never heard of the international arms trade...no...those terrorist must get a much better deal in the states when they're buying bulk...it's not like who they are would show up on any background check or something...
Idiot.

But there is one glaring omission - nothing in this bill will close the gaps in our federal firearm laws frequent flyer programs that allow terrorists to amass their deadly arsenals.
To: Enemy Of The State
Yes...and we should expand the law to include criminal background checks for those purchasing fingernail clippers. Who knows what kind of insane nutcase might procure fingernail clippers by illicit or legal means. I heard of an airplane pilot who attempted to board a plane (he was to fly it) with such a weapon.
And tweezers! I heard a nun possessed a pair of tweezers!

"We know from recent terrorism investigations that these dangerous criminals will exploit any opening in our laws to buy weapons, including firearms. In some cases, they have gone to gun shows and bought firearms and ammunition from unlicensed sellers who were not required to conduct criminal background checks. To quote Lily Von Schtup from "Blazing Saddles", this is pure Bool-sheet. The "openings" in our laws are irrelevant to criminals, who do what they want to do regardless of any law.
And don'tcha love the phrase "in some cases"? IN SOME CASES, Ms. Brady, people have used bathtubs to kill their families. Why aren't you calling for faucet locks and mandatory background checks at America's home and garden shows? Or even at Home Depot? IN SOME CASES, this could have saved lives!!

Too bad if someone has to protect YOU from an attack I certainly would not. Matter of fact, I wouldn't piss down your throat if your guts were set on fire by a terrorist. What an effing looney !!

What we need are more guns, and vigilance among the citizenry. Amen. Thankfully, gun sales are way up in my area, and I hope to add to that number this week.
