Novak: Democratic Gloom Over 2002 Elections
Townhall ^ | 10/12/01 | RObert Novak

DEMOCRATIC GLOOM

In the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, national Democratic strategists have grown gloomy about their chances to regain control of the House next year and worry they may lose the Senate. In addition to surging national support for President Bush, decennial House redistricting has mostly gone against the Democrats -- particularly in Texas. In the Senate, Democrats worry about shaky incumbents in Montana, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa.

In contrast, the Democratic strategists see only one vulnerable incumbent Republican senator: Sen. Robert Smith in New Hampshire. But Smith could well be defeated in the GOP primary by the more popular Rep. John E. Sununu.

There are so many reasons I'd love to see the Pubs take the Senate back - but 1st on the list is to wipe the perpetual smirk off of Jim Jefford's face. I have not forgotten his self-serving betrayal.

It's been observed that whenever a war is on, the incumbent wins. Whenever a war ends, the opposition wins.

The ideal solution, then, is to round up all the terrorists but one, and follow him very closely -- but don't ever catch him. That way, the War on Terrorism can go on perpetually, enabling Republicans to win elections without hurting people.

Now don't go calling me a cynic. If the American people wanted their leaders to win wars, they would have re-elected 41.

The House is the "liberty tooth" - it's where the spending starts. Senate with someone who behaves lke Bob Barr would be fine - but if it means a rerun with that other guy...

The Texas comment about House seat redistricting of Novak is out of date. The judge flipped on Thursday, and changed his plan to a pro Dem incumbent protection plan. The GOP was not pleased. Now the 3 judge federal panel reviews it. Just what the scope of their review is I don't know.

Wouldn't it be 'truly fab' if the 'pubs could slip into a 60/40 position and put an end to the filibuster threat? Oh, the possibilities....

God bless the true patriot!

This would be a wonderful thing.

Now, if we can get it off to a fast start with wins by Earley and Schundler in their governor's races this November, we will have a strong reason to hope for big gains in 2002.

Elections are the only way to change the balance of power. Conservatives must take control of both houses, the liberal agenda is the main reason for our massive vulnerability. Even in your disgust you should be able to see the importance of the 2002 elections. This country is in a fight for its life, you tell me which agenda realistically approaches the issue of national security?? That's how important the 2002 elections are.
