A car bomb has exploded in the Spanish capital Madrid, injuring at least 10 people.
The bomb went off in a car park under the central Plaza de Colon, just hours after a military parade passed by to mark a Spanish national day.
King Juan Carlos watched the parade and was seated just 100 yards from where the bomb went off.
Authorities said four of the injured were police officers. Most of the injured were treated on the spot for smoke inhalation.
ETA suspected
A spokesman for the city's fire department said the the blast blew a large hole in the car park's floor, damaging 67 cars.
He said the blast resembled the car bomb explosion at Madrid's Barajas airport in August.
That blast was blamed on the Basque separatist group ETA.
Spanish national radio, quoting Madrid's Mayor Jose Maria Alvarez, said the latest blast was caused by a car that had been towed to the car park, which was also a pound for illegally parked vehicles. End.

The blast fits ETA's MO; however, there are others in the Muslim world who would like to see King Juan Carlos killed as symbolic payback for what they call the "Andalusian Tragedy" when Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand drove the Muslims from Iberia in the fifteenth century. Given recent events this last theory may have more currency.

Especially considering the date!

It is also worth noting that King Juan Carlos has a number of titles in addition to being King of Spain. One of those titles is "King of Jerusalem" as he is the living claimant to the Christian throne of Jerusalem in the Holy Land.

I,m sure the Bush Administration has the ETA on their list of targets too. So many infidels, so little time.

Very interesting theory. I think the ETA is a bit more likely though, unless some of those Muslim fundamentalists are really poring over their history books.

I don't think any new attacks will be as well planned as the 9/11 attacks and will be on a smaller scale. They don't have the cash and can't communicate to each other as freely as they could a month ago.

"so little time"
To the terrorists, I say "tiiime is on my side, yes it is" & for the cost, I would gladly pay my tax dollars to fight & kill terrorists, rather than be forced to pay those $$ to save sucker fish!

Car bomb huh, I figured it would be sewer gas. Our hotel room in central Madrid was so full of sewer gas I was sure it would have blown up by now.

just hours after a military parade passed by to mark a Spanish national day. Could they have possibly forgot to reset their watch? All this jumping from country to country - probably forgot...time difference could give clue as to time zone bomber came from.
I mean, why go to all that trouble hours after the parade passes.

Possibly. I prefer to regard it as Divine Mercy.
