Peter Jennings opened the west coast edition of ABC's evening news broadcast with a short, pseudo news segment attacking the Bush adminstration's policy of media control during the current conflict in Afghanistan.
Jennings asked his whitehouse correspondent to confirm that the media was being restricted in the conflict because Bush "didn't want the people to know". The correspondent cofirmed the allegation by repeating the phrase.

"Who watches ABC anymore...the incredibly naive who don't know any better?" Probably the people who were slow to move from CBS and went up the Alphabet rather than down to Fox...

Any news organization that is releasing this sort of information is doing so after the Pentagon first clears the information. Just because a news agency (ANY news agency) reports something doesn't make it accurate, even Fox News Channel. I happen to agree with you all, that sometimes it is best to "just not report". However, sometimes it is in our best interest to "report something less than 100% accurate" in order to misinform our enemy.
Stop giving so much credit to news reporters who are quick to repeat stories that are "fed" to them.

Regarding Fox News and the coverage of the bomber flights, I would not be concerned. Several times Britt and Carl and others have announced that Fox policy is to announce NOTHING about troop, air, or ship movements unless it had been cleared by the Pentagon. I assume that the times are fudged. OR, they are hoping a cell-phone call will be made alerting the Taliban. I'm glad someone else on this thread is getting the picture. People need to realize that during war, the news is carefully "managed".

"putz"
If it is good enough for Al D'Amato to use, it's good enough for me. Peter Jennings is a putz head with putz envy.

Anchor: "Is it true that we actually have a President who is more concerned with operational security than with grandstanding and media opportunities?"
Correspondent: "Ummm, I guess that's one way to say it. But I'm really used to people over here telling me anything I want to know as long as I promise to make them look good in my reports. Hey, what's this 'operational security' thing anyway?"
To: Amerigomag
I'm sure the wives, children and parents of our troops don't want to know anything at all that might endanger their loved ones. When they showed President Bush's genuine anger at congress for leaking secrets they only made Americans respect him more. I think Jennings is in over his head in trying to belittle Bush and his attacks have become more and more subtle.
On a more personal note, Jennings can slob my knob.

I think he should leave for Afghanistan immediately and be right there at the forefront of any mission alongside our servicemen and women. Can't get any more accurate information than that.

We should throw all the disloyal aliens out of the U.S., STARTING WITH THE LEFTIST CANADIAN, PETER JENNINGS! Suppose Peter gave a newscast?
And only the 5% of the losers, cowards and malcontents In America watched? A deserved audience, don't you think?

Did we broadcast Tokyo Rose into the homes of Americans during WWII? I guess in this age of "fairness" anything goes. On September 12, when it became apparent that massive retaliation against countries who harbor terrorists was the only long term solution I said the following:
In this task, should we fail and eventually be overwhelmed, it will primarily due to two factors: Multiculturalism and Political Correctness.
The amount of reduced resolve and backpedalling by our president and our Congress, sadly point to a relentless retreat into eventual oblivion.
Nothing has changed for the better; I believe in optimism, but I also more believe my ears and my eyes.

"FYI -- by the time you hear or see a B-2, it's too late. So no one is in danger from Fox News...There also are no anti-aircraft left for the enemy to shoot with. What's the problem?"
the problem is...we don't want "bin n the boys" to know when the bombers are going to be there, we really want to spoil their goat bbq...Big deal. Let them see when the B-2's leave here. I think it is a great idea. Send the B-2's out, let them fly a few miles, then turn around and land back at their bases. And while the Taliban drags what is left of their military out of their current hiding places to find new hiding places, U.S. and British Air power already in the Afgan area blows away whatever comes out of hiding.
Of course I wouldn'tmind thinking that the B-2's aren't heading to Afganistan anyway.... There are those foriegn U.N. AWACS off our coasts....
