The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

"Did Adam and Eve have a belly button?"

Yes. They shared it on alternate days.

Would it then become "sola magic sternuma"?

Asking questions can be an excellent tool in learning. Questioning one's beliefs can be a very useful way of increasing the depth of one's spirituality.

And if you've ever thought you knew a subject try teaching it and discovering all the questions you get that you never thought about.

In religious matters, questioning long and hard enough can even lead one to the realm where there are no questions, and there…

Besides, if you rule out questions on these threads, two-thirds of my posts are outa bounds.

Becky,

One last question: What questions did you ask yourself before you decided to become a Christian and before you decided to believe the Bible is true and inerrant?

And are you thinking about this.. I may not have fully clarified my statement earlier; but, using your logic, if one takes man out of the loop, how then can a question like, "That they can save themselves?" come into play?

That isn't my logic, look here... "Jesus denied his divinity and made his decisions as a man in order to prove that men can make the decisions to do the right thing - which is to follow and cling to the will of God in all things. Jesus proved it could be done." Now if I am reading you right Man is out of the loop because he can now chose to fallow God. This is a contradiction. Now maybe you didn't mean it that way, but if you can't be clear on this I don't see how I am at fault.

It wasn't about a miracle, it was about whether Jesus was indeed risen.

Interesting.... I've never thought about it like that before, God didn't do anything miraculous, it was just a bunch of stuff that happened.

Another question.... What do you say to a person who believes because of a Sign or a Miracle?

Chapter and verse please</> describing the exact procedure for Christian baptism and dislinking a child from his parental authority. If a parent can require a child to get a vaccination, then will that be less effective because the child cannot formally assent?

Becky,

I complimented you yesterday,I thought you were saying what I had been trying to say and that was a lot of "OOPS" and "gotchas" on these threads probably were not pleasing to God and were an absolute turn-off to those who might be searching. I had not been following the particular exchange that precipitated your remark and I am sorry. Because now I find you meant Catholics were asking the questions you found bothersome. This was contrary to my opinion. You for all practical purposes were saying,"we believe and don't you dare ask us what we believe because it hurts Gods feelings and we are right so just keep quiet and we will tell you what Jesus said". So I withdraw the compliment.

It seems, from the perspective of a Catholic, that non-Catholics are in unity only in their hostility and animus for the Catholic Church and I am quite sure that was not the great commission. You constantly demand proofs for everything and throw up some passage or another, frequently out of context to prove your point of the moment. But if you took the 191 times that Peter was mentioned, the duties and responsibilities he was charged with as well as the virtual totality of the times he was mentioned first you would recognize that you are missing a very clear message from Jesus. You might even be embarrassed because it is so scripturally clear in words and in space allocation that He established a visible Church and put someone in charge.

Why do you think He came when He did? Don't you think it may have had something to do with the quarrelsome state and the number of sects among and within the group that was once "His Chosen People Israel"? After all He had sent the Spirit to them and all they did was bicker and some used it to take advantage of others. I can't believe He came to exacerbate contention and disunity.God did create us to live with one another.

You know I have seen things written by all non-Catholics at some time or another that gave food for thought and I really appreciate what Havoc says about obedience to God and your sincere effort to get the word of God out and Havard's humor and explanations of many things and Bass808's theology and verbal skills in transmitting it. I have seen many Catholics agree with you all, compliment you and genuinely try to discuss things with you but I have not seen the converse occur with the exception of one person and then only upon rare occasion.

Incidentally the question Soothing Dave was asking is of paramount importance because denial of Jesus Christ's deity or divinity is the first step down the old slippery slope that leads to concluding that man is God. It is well known among certain circles and very dangerous to start down that slope because it becomes irreversible at a certain point, except of course,in the case of Divine Intervention. Keep up the questions Dave, you are living proof that faith and a brain are not mutually exclusive.

THIS IS THE LINK FOR A MOST INTERESTING UPDATED NYC, WTC BIBLE CODE.

http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3bc5400947d0.htm

FOLLOWING is the latest update on the progress of a growing NYC WTC related Bible Code. ONE aspect of it already has odds of 1 in 4 million occuring by chance. Some aspects of it are entirely new to the phenomenon. The code's obvious relationship to the surface text (Ezek 7:2-8) is also quite sobering. This code has risen to one of the top 5 of all time in terms of statistical probabilities. This is a worthy site for interested people to signup for. Offered as fair use for educational discussion--Q

This one is an incredibly interesting code. There is such a diversity of high quality features rendering this well beyond remotely reasonably considered to ahve occurred by chance.

I hope the code might increase our prayerful support of our nation and one another in The Body.

Interesting.... I've never thought about it like that before, God didn't do anything miraculous, it was just a bunch of stuff that happened.

Again, you mistate my words. You say there was nothing miraculous. I said it wasn't about a miracle. English not your first language?

Another question.... What do you say to a person who believes because of a Sign or a Miracle?

If they can grow in the Lord and finish the race is what matters. But those that believe because they look for signs and miracles are among the easiest to decieve. If a man heal another man is that a miracle? One who follows miracles will follow the devil, because he has miracles too. They may be false miracles; but, one who cannot discern and cannot check the word will not know the difference.

Do you believe that the rest of us are born with a sinful nature? If so, is your understanding of this similar or different from the Catholic doctrine of original sin?

Good questions. Yes and from my the theological dictionary here is the definition of "Original sin":

This is a term used to describe the effect of Adam's sin on his descendants (Rom. 5:12-23). Specifically, it is our inheritance of a sinful nature from Adam. The sinful nature originated with Adam and is passed down from parent to child. We are by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2:3).

It is my personal belief (opinion) that is is passed down by the male.

There doesn't appear to be a difference between the 2 terms to me.

Also ... Dave asked the question of Havoc because Havoc said something that made it sound like he didn't believe Jesus was/is God. Dave didn't just throw out the question to stir things up.

Good morning, everybody! May God bless each of you with a deeper faith and understanding of His will.

We can be curious, but at the same time, let's not ask questions with the intent to stump. Do not take pride in "proving" another wrong. Be patient with one another today and continue to seek that which is from God. "And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

Charity is that with which no man is lost, and without which no man is saved.

 -- St. Robert Bellarmine

----------------

From wau.org...

What is faith if it isn't teamed with trust and persistence? Nothing more than wishful thinking. Jesus illustrated this point by telling a parable about a man who wouldn't go away until his neighbor had given him what he needed. The point is clear: God wants us to come to him with trust and persistence, eagerly desiring his blessing. When he doesn't grant our request right away, it's not because he's too busy with other things or doesn’t care about us enough. Often, he wants us to wait because he knows how deeply persistence can change us. As St. Paul wrote: "Suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope" (Romans 5:3-4).

It's easy to become discouraged when we don't receive an answer right away. We may feel like giving up on God and relying on ourselves instead. But Jesus urges us to keep knocking; he promises that he will open the door and pour out his Spirit on all who ask him.

When God delays in giving us answers or comfort in our prayer, it may be because he wants to teach us to fear him properly. He is God, and we are not. He is always good, holy, and righteous. He is always worthy of our trust and obedience whether or not our lives go the way we think they should go. God wants the foundation of our lives to be his revelation in our hearts, not the ups and downs of daily living. If we base our lives on who God is and on his unfailing love that never leaves us, we will experience his work in our lives, at just the right time. Just like the persistent friend whose neighbor finally gave him everything he wanted, we will receive the blessings and provisions we will need for every situation.

Through our faithfulness and persistence, we allow God to form us into vessels for his glory. As we wait on him, we can learn to trust him, and in trusting him, we can grow stronger and become more able to help others. Over time, he will be more and more able to use us as instruments to manifest his love and power to the world.

"Father, I thank you that you are loving, kind, and good. I trust that as I persist in prayer and obedience, you will pour out your Spirit on me to re-create me in the character of your Son, Jesus."

----------------

Have a great day!
