BREAKING: Anthrax case possible in VIRGINIA
AP Breaking ^ | 10/09/01

Posted on 10/09/2001 12:15:18 AM PDT by cgk

Elsewhere, a state official in Virginia confirmed that health officials there were monitoring a possible case of anthrax at a northern Virginia hospital.

Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va., contacted the state health department with a possible anthrax diagnosis, "one of several possible diagnoses" for the victim, whose name was not released, said M. Boyd Marcus, Gov. Jim Gilmore's chief of staff. He said a germ culture from the victim was transported to a state laboratory in Richmond on Monday evening and would take at least 24 hours to analyze.

The state government was told that the Virginia victim had either been an employee of or a contractor for The Sun, Marcus said. He had no details, and he said it wasn't known whether the victim had been in Florida of late or had had direct contact with Blanco or Stevens.

Sorry I cut the "E" off the word "elsewhere" were I made words bold... Above is the full article, the bold part is what was posted when the this thread was started. As you can see the mentioning of the possible Virginia case is pretty far into the full written story.

It's better to NOT use the antibiotics unless you absolutely have to. OK?

Thanks for giving us the correct scoop. I heard same from another doctor, on one of the cable channels. Thanks

You're wrong. There are several different types of anthrax. The timelines for when you must initiate treatment vary with the exposure level. You are hyping out and you've not even been exposed. Don't let a terrorist psyop confuse you.

Virginia officials, meanwhile, said Monday evening they were alerted to a possible anthrax case in a Virginia man who either previously worked for the Sun or had a contractual relationship with the Florida paper. It was not clear when he had last been in Florida.

You can count the number of testing facilities in Southern California equipped to identify Anthrax on one hand.

Name them, please.

Instead of telling people what you think they're reaction should be, why don't you just share with the board whatever information you may have that seems to be keeping you so calm, in the face of what is obviously a biological attack. (albeit, a small one)

Listen, I already said that I wouldnt be suprised if this man had anthrax and I wouldnt be suprised if another person comes down with it before its all done. Sorry if Im not going to start screaming the sky is falling! This is war and is anyone REALLY shocked that we are under attack? Running around hystericaly and wetting myself is NOT going to do me or anyone else any good whatsoever.

We are a nation of civilized people and we must not loose grip on our sanity, determination, and will when we are presented under these types of circumstances.

But, alas, GRAY DAVIS claims that his administration will support the people and train "thousands" of health care providers. Gov. Gray-out is nuts. You can count the number of testing facilities in Southern California equipped to identify Anthrax on one hand

Just heard on KFBK (local radio) That only now has Gray out Davis decided to call a meeting to see where Californis stands in preparedness against BIO_WARFARE.

WHERE THE HE@L HAS HE BEEN!!!

It seems to me that crop dusting planes are no longer a viable option. The reason being, once one is spotted in an unusual area, the CDC and FBI will descend on that area so fast, and distribute antibiotics to everyone so rapidly, that few if any people will be infected.

That's if anyone notices. If they can get the plane in the air from an abandoned airfield at night, they can spray all night long to their heart's content without being noticed. You can't really tell the difference between a crop duster and a single-engine plane when you're on the ground and the plane's way up there.

And dispersal is best done at night, preferably an overcast night. Exposure to sunlight can render the bacteria benign. If they do it that way, everybody wakes up and goes about their day like nothing happened.

"Not a hoax. Just see your doctor if you get sick. No different than at any other time, right?"

Wrong. And if you're really an MD, then you know it.

With pulmonary anthrax, by the time "you get sick", you are doomed. You need to begin treatment before the symptoms appear. Thus says every medical authority I've read -- except for you. Hmm...

No different than at any other time? What gall. What amazing gall.

It's pretty cruel of you to pull a virtual-triage stunt like that here, Mr. Newbie. Um, "Dr." Newbie. Do you really -- I mean, really -- think that "avoiding panic" is worth giving people advice that can kill them? Or perhaps you're just a vengeful SOB, mad as hell about the HMO capitation system? (hey, I served on a state HMO commission, I quit in disgust, "I Feel Your Pain"(tm)) Maybe you're looking to sock it to the HMOs with the Body Count from Hell? Or maybe you're hoping the survivors of any anthrax victims that die because they took your advice will lobby the snot out of Congress to pass some HMO laws that you'll like better than the capitation system?

Or maybe you're here because it's your job?

So do tell, Dr. I-Just-Showed-Up-Today. I'm like Farmer Jones' back 40. I'm all ears.

And to nip your question in the bud, no, I'm not a doctor. And I'm not giving medical advice. I'm merely calling you on the medical advice you so arrogantly gave here on your first day of membership.

"I'm a doctor of medicine. Don't worry guys. The treatment for anthrax is well-established."

D*mn it, Bones!

It's going to take more than salt shakers and electric razors to stop this diabolical germ...

I've got a five year mission full of interplanetary spacebabes to explore.

I don't know, but if I was our men in black, I would be a presence in every classroom at that University of Southern Florida watching and listening to every single word and gesture, facial expression, and lecture. From what I saw on O'Reilly, it is a hotbed of Muslim activity. BTW, there is a similar experimental, research program at the University of Alabama. Wonder why these creeps chose Southern Universities and not areas heavily populated with Muslims like Chicago. Really though, I understand that there are large Muslim presences at both Pitt and Penn state. That does not set my mind at ease even a little since one is my Alma Mater and the other's Department of Pharmacology is famous worldwide. Besides which, Pgh. Is the land of top flight teaching hospitals, not to mention a city completely surrounded by bridges, and a major financial center in its own right.
Isn't it odd that the things that we take the most pride in are the things that seem to cause the most frightening speculation?

*DIDN'T* ask a single question about the available sprayers or nozzles.

Might have been trying to play dumb. Not bringing too much attention to themselves. One thing is for certain, they probably did their homework on cropdusters. They sure did it concerning jumbo jets.

The guy they had talked to at the cropduster service said that it sounded to him as if they were just looking at the planes as transportation of some sort (or maybe even suicide bomb flights), but didn't show any interest in the actual spraying abilities of the plane.

Why use a slow cropduster for that. They were sure bringing a lot of attention to themselves by asking questions and bugging the cropduster guys. Would have been much easier to just rent a regular plane. Which they did on a couple of occasions.

No prob gracey.

God bless you guys and gals! You're thinking and keeping this nation strong (when we got a bunch of idiotic socialist pinko's pleading for no war).

I went out and bought Earthquake supplies. The stuff you need isn't much different. If these goofballs have a low-yield tactical, they could take out major infrastructure. So, I'm stocked up on bottled water, soups, crackers, beef jerky, some bandages, gas, oil, flashlights, some first-aid stuff, batteries, maps, (Boy Scout 10 essentials...the old man would be proud!)

wish I had shotgun and cartridges and a gas generator

I'll bet some of you do.

If worse comes to worse, I'll trade you some antibiotics and rice for a good bite of deer/bird/spotted owl (bald eagle not for eating).

good night gracey.

"Anthrax patient sneezes on keyboard and zoom... it spreads... been shaking hands??"

Nope. Anthrax is not a communicable disease. Read up on it, there are tons of information on scads of medical sites.

No one caught it from that guy.
