Another possibility is some kind of naso-pharyngeal surgery. Garry Meier of Roe and Garry on WLSAM finally went in for surgery on a gigantic nasal polyp. When he came back and the swelling went down, he sounded almost completely different at time, a lot more resonant since his nose wasn't plugged up all the time, slightly higher pitch. It took weeks for him to sound like Garry again, not that he regained his own voice, I just got used to it. I think the change in vocal quality may have been due to surgery; the rapidity, to time compression for ad revenue purposes.
I hear they've resurrected Andy Kaufman to be the translator for bin Ladin (or, as the news people say, ha ha ha, Mr. bin Ladin).

Thanks for the explanation on Garry's voice - I thought it was a new person also named Gary. He went through that contract thing a year or so ago.

Gosh I miss those guys. Their show is one of the things I miss about WLS. Now if they would just go back to the web broadcast.
