Those are all good points. The Powers of Baseball That Be decided after the strike in the mid-90s that cancelled part of a season and the playoffs and World Series, and made baseball anathema, that something had to be done to win back the fans. So, they juiced up the ball and did all those other things.
It isn't just Bond's 73 homers, but how many guys are hitting 50+ homers now in a single season. It used to be getting 50 was a significant feat.
But in Bonds case there is another factor, too: The new Pac Bell stadium. Candlestick had all those swirling winds, some of which were strong enough to blow Juan Marichel off the mound (remember that? ;-) ). Are the winds in Pac Bell different? Just asking, as that could be a factor, too.
Safeco is in Seattle. Bonds played 3 interleague gamse there, with one homer. What's your point?
Correction: 19 DAYS and 15 games without a homer.
I like Bonds alot and he has earned his place as one of the best players in baseball regardless of his failures in the post season.
His defensive play is virtually ignored by those who like to dis' him but he's a golden glover who takes every aspect of his play seriously.
You mean Pac Bell. Safeco is in Seattle. I know - these corporate sponsor stadium names confuse things. At least we know who plays in Dodger Stadium without thinking about it.
Pac Bell is short down the line, but gets deep quickly. It's NOT a good HR park, and Bonds hit 36 HR's on the road (easily a record.)
I met Barry once, briefly. His business manager was a client of mine. He was polite and very soft-spoken. Seemed kinda shy.
BTW, the Giants didn't trade Will the Thrill. They let him go to free agency and devoted their resigning money to Robby Thompson, aching back and all, after a career year in'93.
What a blunder.

King of the REGULAR SEASON! Like Big Mac, when his paltry 70 was hit, 162 games and OUT. Whatever THEY did wasn't enough for their respective teams to make it to the SHOW.......TOO BAD!
Some of these names are just beyond unreasonable. I've followed baseball for years and STILL messed up the Seattle and SF fields...

Barry's on base percentage is now .514! The old NL record was .507 by Rogers Hornsby in 1924, when he set the Major League hitting record of .424.
No one has been on base more than 50% of the time since Mickey Mantle and Williams did it in 1957. Bonds, Hornsby, and John McGraw are the only National leagers to do it, since 1900. Ruth Williams, and Mantle are the only American Leagers.
This all puts Bonds' OPS (on-base plus slugging) at 1.3796. Ruth's record, also set in 1920, is 1.3791! (We'll see what happens in Bonds' next ab)The next highest total for anyone other than Ruth or Bonds is Ted Williams' 1.2860 in1941.
