The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Pray for the Vicar of Christ

Holy Scripture NEVER says that one man or one office will be Christ's "stand in" on the earth. Christ Himself said that the Holy Spirit, whom He would send, will be His presence on earth. It takes a lot to get my feathers ruffled, but this surely does----to say that a mere human, "good" as he might be---is Christ's substitute on earth, when Christ said that His Spirit would be His substitute on earth. This is blasphemous IMO.

Yes, thanks for the links. Actually, before going to bed last night, I found the Catechism at the Vatican website, and read (and read and read and read) that section on revelation, Scripture, and Tradition. The link you gave for the "Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation" will prove to be helpful...even if I might disagree 8^/ Thanks.

You asked : Why pray?

Jesus said that if one loves Him and keeps His word, He and the Father will "come to him and make Our abode with him." In other words, we can have a personal relationship with them. What kind of personal relationship is possible without speaking to one another?

Besides, even Jesus made it a habit to go off by Himself to talk to the Father!!!!

You wrote: Do you think that there is even a remote possibility that any of the visions of Mary or one of the Saints could be authentic?

This is a hard question for me to answer. At this point in my learning, I'd have to say that I'm undecided, because I don't really think that people who have died in the flesh can appear on the earth----yet, when Christ died on the Cross, Matthew says that dead saints were raised. But we are living in a different time----post-Resurrection and so on---so I just don't know.

Does this mean both should speak/both should listen? How do you listen to God?

And is communication possible without words?

Let me guarantee you that at least one person in YOUR church would say the same thing (I hope I'm saved, I go to church, I'm a good person). Is that because your church doesn't teach the right thing? Not necessarily. Just that some people are dense and others cannot be taught.

With out a doubt but do we give up trying to get them to understand ?

Do we not show them the simple truth?

No. We must each stand in our separate corners and wonder why we aren't impacting the world.

I'm not sure what you mean here, could you give me some more words please.

Can anyone tell me if there is a "search" feature which one can use on this forum? If so, any hints?

This may be too simple for you D-fendr but here it is.

Pray = You talk to God.

Read God's Word = He talks to you.

Hi, D-fendr. You wrote: Does this mean both should speak/both should listen? How do you listen to God? And is communication possible without words?

Yes, communication is possible without words....I do it all the time, except for when I AM using words!! 8^) And I think that what PayNoAttention said in #12 is very true, tho' I don't rule out (as I'm pretty sure he doesn't either) the Holy Spirit speaking to my spirit. This is subjective, tho', unless He also brings scripture to my remembrance.

"the Holy Spirit speaking to my spirit."

How would you describe this experience in your words?

I don't understand your question. Re-word.

Mind if I ask why you are asking these questions? Are you just curious, or what? They are good questions to ask, but I'm just wondering why you ask them.

Thanks BigMack, but the type of search I was looking for would be based on phrases or words.

For example:

Search on - "Its at the top of the latest"
and return a list where that exact phrase occurred.

This search feature is available on some other forums but I don't see it here.

You don't understand what "vicar" means. "Deputy" is a better translation of "vicar" than "substitute." But substitute is OK if you think of it in the context of a "substitute teacher" If you have ever been in a school , you know what kids think of "substitutes."
