Welcome newcomers!

Alamo-Girl! Look what I have found ... for you...

From William Barret Travis, Lieutenant-Colonel-Commandant of the Alamo:

"To the People of Texas and all Americans in the world ---

Fellow Citizens and Compatriots; I am besieged, by a thousand or more under Santa Anna. I have sustained a continual Bombardment and cannonade for 24 hours and have not lost a man. The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise the garrison will be put to the sword.

I have answered the demand with a cannon shot and our flag still waves proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender or retreat. I call on you in the name of Liberty, of Patriotism and everything dear to the America character, to come to our aid ... If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his honor and that of his country ---
VICTORY OR DEATH"

Sorta puts this anthrax thing in perspective ... does it not?!

Alamo-Girl, I'm another newbie, having found New Republic when one of your articles popped up when I did a search for a Conservative author.

I've read the Help files, but still have questions:

Is "bump" a "housekeeping" feature or does it mean "right back atcha"?

I surmise from messages that "ping" is a method of alerting others, but I find no mention in the help files or message I've read. Is it in a help file somewhere?

Thanks so much for that great piece of research on the Clinton legacy!

Well ~~~~ Welcome, Texan4W!!!! It's very nice to meet you, it is!

Here's the scoop on *bump* and *ping* ... both mean the same.

What you are indicating is that you are posting a reply and, thus, bumping ... or pinging the thread you are on back to the top of the forum so that it will get more attention ... either general attention ... or specific if you have addressed your comments to particular people.

I use *ping* when I want to alert specific posters to a topic which I think they will find of interest ... and will type *bump* for a general boost back to the top.

Either way ... both words accomplish the same thing.

I like your name, by the way. *grins*

Thanks, istillbe… I guess I’ll just have to try it to see how it works… should have done that to start with, but I always hesitate to take a chance on causing some kind of ruckus.

I like your name, by the way. *grins*

Thanks! I was surprised that it was still available.

It’s such a joy to find others of like mind here!!

Alamo-Girl,

I was dismayed to see the “last update” date on the Clinton Legacy, I was hoping to find out the truth of the last recount.

Is there reason to hope you will add that?

Come to think of it, is there reason to hope that you are keeping a similar log on the Bush Legacy?

The Downside Legacy at that website is applicable to the Clinton Administration and thus does not go beyond its expiration. I have however kept information on subsequent activity in each of the categories (including the recounts) under the Bush administraion - and am using that information in a book series I'm writing.

I am also keeping track of information on the current administration but will not attempt a downside legacy notecard type database on it unless the numbers indicate a troubling pattern to me.

Thanks for asking!

Welcome, newcomers!!!!

Well, I have noticed that many (not here, mind) ... are beginning to get a little impatient ... with how the war is going ... they want a quick fix ... maybe leaving reality at the door in their thinking. This is understandable .... this is new to all of us ... and we are struggling, each of us, to come to terms with new realities ....

Listen to this, a voice from the past. It's February 1, 1944 and Marine Lieutenant John C. Chapin finds himself on the island Namur in the Pacific ... and he also finds his reality was changed ... but became the stronger for it ...:

"By now everything was all mixed up, with our assault wave all entangled with the armored tractors (LVTs) ahead of us. I ordered my driver to maneuver around them. Slowly we inched past, as their 37-mm guns and .50-caliber machine guns flamed.

The beach lay right before us. However, it was shrouded in such a pall of dust and smoke from our bombardment that we could see very little of it. As a result, we were unable to tell which section we were approaching (after all our hours of careful planning, based on hitting the exact spot!)

I turned to talk to my platoon sergeant, who was manning the machine gun behind me. He was slumped over --- the whole right side of his face disintegrated into a mass of gore.

Up to now, the entire operation had seemed almost like a movie, or like one of the innumerable practice landings we'd made."
emphasis mine

Reality ... came to visit this fine Marine... and he lived to tell the tale ...

We need to visit and accept reality too ... our Armed Forces and our President are depending on us.

God BLESS America!!!

I think it's mostly reporters -- even on Fox -- who are getting impatient. They want news served to them in news briefings, and when there is nothing new, instead of finding stories or stories about stories, they whine.

And, as you suggest, we have to be careful to avoid reacting to what THEY say.

So THAT'S how a ping works. *smile* Thanks
