Glad it says "attempt". Let's pray.

In Deming? How strange. I don't recall an airport being there when I lived there many years ago. It was too small of a population to have one. It must be a private strip and a small plane.

It must be a private strip and a small plane. A personal guess, ... crop duster???

This occured last night, so the incident has been over for a long time. Fox is saying that their affiliate in Albequrque is reporting that this is not terrorist related.

The "News Alert" is not there on FOXNews.com anymore. Not sure what is going on.

Hijacking a single-seat crop duster? They are getting over-confident.

Deming technically has three airports, according to AirNav.com. There's DMN, which appears to be only a General Aviation field with no commercial operations, and two other private strips. There are thirty a/c based at DMN, all but one are single-engine props. Only one multi-engine there - that is, BASED there.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard anything about it, or I wouldn't have posted this. Not sure why FOXNews.com had it as a news alert.

The "News Alert" is not there on FOXNews.com anymore. Not sure what is going on. I brought the site up and it WAS there. My browser froze, and when I got it back the headline was gone. It was just a minute ago.

Two things I know about that town: In the 1940's there was a German POW Camp there. The town is also famous for its' annual duck race. Interesting??

No crop dusters are based there. The airport lists its ops types as airfreight, charter, flying instruction, aircraft rental. No dusters.

NO ONE IS COVERING THIS, WHY?
To: Nick The Freeper
It had just come off the AP wires, so whoever's the webmaster at FNC put up the alert based on the scant info in the initial reports.

Deming is an agricultural area - very sparsley populated.

Welcome to the Deming Municipal Airport. Located 67nm west of El Paso, Texas, and 185nm east of Tucson, Arizona, Deming enjoys 360 days of VFR each year and relief from the crowded skies found around its larger neighbors. Access to the IFR system is a phone call away. The principal 6000' runway (8/26) has 1500' overruns and covers 80% of the prevailing winds while the secondary runway (4/22) at 5700' covers all but 2% of the remaining conditions. In 1995, a new modern terminal with passenger and crew facilities was established on the north side of the airport. Fast turnaround fueling is provided from three fuel service trucks and a state of the art fuel delivery system. Line service is provided by professionally trained personnel. |
