Let me get more specific. I am 15-20 miles from an Army base on a FEMA map. Generally, the wind is blowing toward that site from my home.Upwind is good. As for safe distance, that depends on the size of the bomb. If its one of these small man-portable jobs, you probably would not have much to worry about so long as winds remain constant as you described them. Rain would be good, too. It knocks it down fast, but will casue soil and ground water problems where affected. If its a big soviet (er, Russian) or chinese bird, I would suggest moving.

Is my question so stupid that no one wants to reply? LOLNope. I must have logged off to soon to see them. Just got back to checking replys. Actually, your questions are more sensible than some of the whacko stuf I've seen the last couple days. There is tons of disinformation all over the web and elsewhere thanks to years of rabid anti-nuke campaigns.

I HOPE NEVER TO SEE THIS ON AMERICAN SOIL I don't know how to break this to you, but that picture was taken in Nevada in 1953. Nevada was American soil in the 1950's. Still is!

Right you are. Also, everyone born prior to 1970, has been vacinated angainst smallpox, and many had the booster shots. Anthrax is difficult to spread.

I am in total agreement with your assessment.
But frankly I am befuddled by the math.
5,000 US dead x 1,000 "enemy" (however you choose to define) = 5,000,000 of those bad boys.
And we haven't started the clock running on the anthrax meter yet.

LOL! Math wasn't my best subject, I see.
