Alamo-Girl's Sister - Donations in Her Memory
Alamo-Girl ^ | October 5, 2001 | GretchenEE for Alamo-Girl

Dear fellow FReepers and FReeperettes,

One among us asked if we could do something to honor the memory of Alamo-Girl's sister or if there were a particular charity the family had chosen for memorials. Alamo-Girl sent me a very gracious (as always!) reply with this information.

Her sister's name: Donna Jean Schunk

Wilton Mortuary (Peoria, Illinois) is handling the arrangements and the services will be held at 2:00 pm tomorrow [October 6] at the First Baptist Church of Peoria.

The family named the Oncology Department of Methodist Medical Center in Peoria [Illinois] for memorials.
[A web search yielded this address; Alamo-Girl, please correct me if it is wrong!!:

Alamo-Girl writes: "My husband and I will also be purchasing Gideon's Bibles as a memorial to her. I like knowing that hurting people in hotel rooms and doctor's waiting rooms have ready access to the Bible!"

Here is a link to the Gideons' home page:
The Gideons International

She wrote that she read the thread from the 4th and is very blessed by everyone's love and words of encouragement -- but her gratitude exceeds her vocabulary at the moment so she is just soaking up the posts for now.

Friends of Alamo-Girl: please help to keep this list bumped for a few days. Thank you!

A "thank you" note from my niece:

To all who have sent prayers, love, money for the memorial, and everything else we have received:

The major part of the chapter in my life about my "Mommy" is now complete. As unreal as it may seem, the services are over and we have our Guardian Angel Urn at home with us. She is no longer with us in the "Physical" but will always be with us in spirit.

Many people commented at the "Celebration" of her life, which is what we called the services, "It's not right or fair," and I have to disagree. I can think of no one more special or deserving to be called home to be with our Lord! It has been an honor to have been her daughter and to have been able to take care of her the past years and months. What a special lady she was and is!!

I am so grateful to God that she was a part of my life and I hers! I have learned a lot about the kind of person I want to be by knowing her and I have grown immensely by her love and friendship and wisdom!!!

Mary, a co-worker of hers, really got to me when she said, "It was an honor to be here today," of the services. She had the right idea!!!!! Praise God for her life and love for all of us!

Thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart for the love and support you have shown my family, especially my Aunt, her sister, and me, and for the prayers and wishes sent!

Y'all will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Praise God,
In love and gratitude,
Libby

Please see Alamo-Girl's post at #143, which is a note of thanks from Donna's daughter, Libby (who sounds just like A-G in her loving effusions and praise of God and all things good!).
