All,
BADJOE has set up a "Mrs. CHIEF" fund right here. Please go there to make your most generous contribution for "Mrs. CHIEF negotiator."
And the Free Republic Ladies' Guild will be sending flowers to the family. If you would like to contribute, please post on the Guild or email Hillary's Lovely Legs.

A little earlier today, I heard FreeRepublic and Chief Negotiator mentioned on radio station KRLA Newstalk 870 (Los Angeles). He contributed so much here.

I can't remember how many times on the FR I read a great reply from CHIEF: thoughtful, funny, brutally honest and sometimes all of that in the same few lines.
Semper Fi, CHIEF. We'll do the work here, you'll watch over us.

I am stunned and saddened.
I considered Herb a friend. I will find a way to be at the funeral.

When I reach Heaven, I hope God has instant replay, so I can experience the reunion Mom and Dad had this morning. This is what Chief Negotiator posted in the lovely tribute he wrote on the day of his mother's death. He didn't need instant replay because I'm sure his Mom and Dad were waiting for him, and she probably took him in her arms again.
I was so sad when I read of his death this morning. I had enjoyed his post last night about not being able to 're-up' with the Marines. He sounded like such a hoot!
Come to think of it, maybe Chief Moran (BCM) who died at the WTC was there to greet him too, as a fellow freeper.

Just think. When Osama's wish to die in his Jihad is shortly granted, he will arrive in Heaven only to discover that the streets are guarded by Herb Meadows.
Won't that be Hell.

Awww. This is terrible news. I always had a search to read Chief's postings. God bless you, CHIEF.

I "chatted" with Chief several times via FR. He seemed like a wonderful and patriotic individual.
This is truly sad news.

I know Chief probably didn't have a lot of love for me, but this hits a little close to home, it's a terrible thing to happen and I'm deeply hurt that it did.
Given the circumstances, I can only think of what a terrible ordeal this is/was for Mrs. Meadows...I hope all will be well for her again soon....
My sincerest condolences to her and the rest of his family.

You are in our prayers, Chief. God bless and keep you. Semper Fidelis, Mike

The Chief was an honourable debator. No matter whether you held with his position or held against it, he always granted you the right to hold your position and took for granted that you held it honestly. We have lost a true friend - but so long as we keep him in our hearts, he will never be far away from us!
