I figured BCM stood for Battalion Chief Moran. BCM listed his occupation on the occupation thread as Battalion Chief and I found this thread.

Trees are occasionally pulled down to position fire department vehicles, however that usually occurs later on in an operation. When first arriving units get on the scene they try to work around obstacles as it is faster than trying to cut them down and clear them. If there is a fire and a tree down outside I would suspect that both may be due to an explosion. Trees don't usually fall down at fires. I am a Battalion Chief in the New York City Fire Department.

I just came from a memorial service for a good friend who was a Chief on the New York City Fire Department. He also happened to be a freeper. I can't begin to describe how great a guy John was and how much I'll miss him. We talked politics, history and world events all the time. And he loved you guys and told me about the web site. I think he introduced me to it with "Patton's speech to the Third Army",a truly great speech which I just reread here. He also always carried with him Teddy Roosevelt's "Man in the Arena " speech, could someone post that? So long John

God bless his family. It's sad to hear about a FReeper having to die like this...
John Moran gave his life trying to save others. There is no greater love...

Did BCM ever explain his handle? Could it have stood for Battalion Chief Moran?

Two CHIEFS in one day.
Salute and goodbye, my friends.

It does not surprise me that a Freeper died a hero.
May God be with his family during this sad time.

And another of our family gone......

If every American had a fraction of the courage that those firefighters show on a daily basis, our problems here would soon be over.

The days get sadder and sadder as the enormity of the 11th continues to touch us personally.
Prayers for the family. Rest well, brave BCM.

This is all so heartbreaking. It's numbing.
You wonder what John would have responded to all the people posting "blame America" crap on FR?

I'm torn between whether I should weep for our losses, or praise God Almighty that we have been blessed with Heroes such as these. There are giants that walk among us, and their faces are etched in the ether of FreeRepublic...

A Hero and a FRiend. Rest in Peace, BCM.

Thank you Lord for lending us this man for a too short period of time. We are grateful that he was our friend, that he shared our love of country and our love of fellow Americans. It makes sense that you would want him back, but we're saddened at his loss.
