For all my fellow college freepers, who were born in the early 1980's, ('81 for me) and really don't remember DeLoreans, what wonderful '80s kid stuff do you remember? Here are some of my favs: StrideRites with double socks, My Little Ponies (the cartoon and toys), Muppet Babies, Rainbow Brite, Wuzzles, He-Man and Masters of the Universe, LiteBrites, The Smurfs, Glow Worms(I brought mine to kindergarten in '87), Cabbage Patch Kids, Slip'n Slides, the orginal Nintendo and GameBoy with the first Mario Brothers, The Care Bears, and even better, The Care Bears movies, Speak'nSpells (I hated the math version), Reading Rainbow on PBS with LeVar Burton, The Cosby Show, Legos, New Kids on the Block, Full House (which me and my roomies still watch) TGIF on ABC when it first started, Inspector Gadget, Kids Incorporated and the Mickey Mouse Club, crimpers and side ponytails, big hairbows, and of course, watching Brat Pack movies and counting down the days until we (for girls) were old enough to tease our hair, wear socks with high heels, and put way too much mascara on!

Speaking of superficiality, the only thing I dread more than the current fascination with all things '70, is the inevitable return of Members Only jackets, spikey hair, parachute pants and synthetic music. My god the 80's sucked ('cept for Reagan). I wish we could return to the 50's but sans racism and keep today's technology.

One of the best things I remember about the '80s (aside from being in my teens and 20's during them, with all that that implies) was entering a gun shop in a mall (in NEW YORK, of all places) and exiting with a semiauto Ruger 10/22 with folding stock, two 30-shot magazines, and flash supressor, all for less than $200.00, at age 18.

The country was just a bit freer then.

Oh, and having an endless supply of headbanger chicks around didn't hurt, either.

Wonderful decade because it was led by Ronald Reagan and expanded our possibilities. It ended the Soviet Empire/Cold War and the Cold War and expanded the economy like never before. The sense of freedom and a hopeful future was in the air.

Amadeus, Raging Bull, and a very few others stand out as worthy films.

IMO, The 80's was a musical wasteland between the transistion of the classic rock bands of the 70's to the alternative bands of the 90's.

This argument was the the one my best buddy, an 80's freak, and I fought over continuously before he passed away a couple of years ago.

The best thing about the '80s was the Open-Class 2 stroke dirt bikes, specifically the 1983 Honda CR480R, and the 1985 CR500R. (No one will have any idea what I am talking about ... )

spodefly in 1986 on his '85 CR500R. 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds!

I can't believe no one's mentioned my favorite '80s toys!

Stretch Armstrong was cool, for a guy with no discernible fingers or toes . . .

. . . but nothing could best my Shogun Warrior!

OK...let's see, Tom Baker as Doctor Who, Star Blazers, Lawyers in Love and Twisted Sister (I Wanna Rock!!), Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the Blues Brothers. My favorite political figures? Ronald Reagan (My first chance to vote in 1984) and Bill the Cat. Aaack-phttp-haaack!
