That would be the same King Fahd who Debka assured us had fled the country.

I am of the opinion that it is time for the U.S. to lay our cards on the table. If the Saudi's do not want to help us, perhaps we should pull our troops out and quit giving them military assistance. Same goes for Egypt. I doubt that this would be a development that the Saudi's would welcome. It is my understanding that their regime is despised by the same terrorist that the U.S. is fighting and would fall without our help. In addition, the US should demand that the Saudi's take steps to ensure that radical islam is not eminating from Saudi Arabia. I am tired of them trying to tell us how the world works, time for them to listen for a while.

It's hard to know substantively what happened here today. I think it's fair to say that the Saudis are scared to death that Osama is attempting to trigger an Islamic Revolution which would sweep the entire Middle East, and would result in their overthrow.

The Saudis have to try to figure out how to help us without making it worse. They really have a problem, and one that isn't very well appreciated here.

I suspect Rumsfeld would be willing to get private assurances from the Saudis that we can do whatever we want, and a very different public pronouncement. That won't satisfy many here, but it's probably the wisest thing to do.

Thank you for some rational analysis. I was getting frustrated by all the new political/military "experts" posting here bitching about the apparent lack of response. People need to realize the show is being run by true experts now. Experts that recognize all the factors at play here in bringing about real and lasting results in this 3 week old war. The outcome is certain. We control the timeline. Folks need to make themselves comfortable, and watch some professionals at work.

Any idiot with half a brain would know better than to engage in the kind of operations we have planned under a full moon. All the talk about showing the Saudi's the "bin Laden proof" is bullpucky. Rumsfeld is there to talk about Iraq, Syria, and Iran. Remind them that they have even more to lose than we do if the "Fundamentalists" (I believe that's what they're called) end up controlling the entire region.

bin Laden is easy. Its what comes next that worries the boyos in Riyadh.
