It's always bad news when a good, interesting publication goes under. Sure, I disagree with great swaths of its content. But Salon also did a lot of first-rate journalism. I fear they're doomed, and I'll be sad to see them go.

Hey, I have an idea! Why don't we pool our pennies together here on FR, and BUY SALON OUT!!!?!???!

I mean, at 16 cents a share, how much would it take to buy the majority of shares? Wouldn't that be TOTALLY COOL?

Actually, the real value of the company may well be the "shell" for the tax-loss carry forward.....

Geez! For $88,000.16 someone could control Salon.com. It would be true irony if a group
of Freepers bought control of the company that despised us so much.

HONESTLY,
if some Freeper financial whiz-kid could set up a fund so that we could pool
the $88,000.16 (or whatever) just to buy the place and tell the staff
"YOU'RE FIRED!", I'd give $10.

Or, we could keep it open and tell the staff to right the most radical left-wing drivel
they wanted.
When it totally folded financially in less than a month, we'd be able to say
"Guess that sort of crap just doesn't sell with America!"

Same idea I had! Can we start a thread to plan this out? Can somebody set up an account to which we could all contribute?

Yes! Time to start another Freep-a-thon...

FYI..consider buying 100 shares, but only if you can get an actual stock certificate....it might be worth something in a few years..and if not....frame it and hang it on the wall.....physical certificates may NOT be available.....depends if the company pays the transfer agent to issue them....

Let's see, they've been in business for six years and have lost $68 million dollars. And they plan on "breaking even in two quarters?

Looks like someone on the board of directors is heavily invested in Powerball tickets.

I love the concept of a "hostile takeover" in the business world.

Stellar idea. Poetic justice at its finest! I'd gladly give $10!

I'll jump in with a buy order when Salon's market cap drops below $680, the combined salvage value of Jake Tapper & Joe Conason's internal organs.

Buy new improved Salon stock! Now quilted double-ply for extra comfort!

The company has about $1,000,000 in cash, but several million in liabilities.....leases, etc.....that's why the stock is sooooo cheap....you could only wipe out the liabilities by filing chapter 11...but then you'd lose control.....

Wait a week and you can own the whole company for under a dollar.

Ann Coulter said that NR was only paying her $5.00 for each column.....I trust, and hope, you get more..(g)....but this type of dirt-cheap publishing model might make Salon viable....

Hostile takeover... tehehehehe...
Of course, news of the bid would drive the price of the stock up, if for no other reason than immediately following the takeover Salon.com would be profitable.

It's a pity the market doesn't work that way. It would be funny if demand for the shares by FReepers drove the price back up to $11, or whatever it was that charged at IPO.
