GURKAS TO ENTER THE ACTION
Vanity | Oct. 2, 2001 | Me

Posted on 10/02/2001 4:47:51 PM PDT by jslade

Heard on Nightly News with Tom Lockjaw tonight that the British are bringing in up to 20,000 Gurka troops for service in Afganistan. Now, if history serves me right, these are some of the most frightening, blood-thirsty, efficient, killers on the planet. I have read many exploits of the Gurkas from WWII and Korea. Would love the hear of more Gurka stories.

Thanks God we have enough men in this country that we don't have to rent men from Nepal and India to fight our battles, like British.

Your ignorance shows sir. The Gurkas are regular members of the British army and have been for years. When the retire they return to their homeland and are elgible to collect a small pension.

I remember reading that during the Falklands War the Argentinians would always run away if they were attacked by Gurkas.

I seem to remember the Argentinians crying foul when they learned the British were sending Gurkhas to that fight--practically accusing the British of a war crime.

"Not me.

It must really stink to be one of the bad guys now.

USMC, SEALS, SAS, USA, USAF, USN, Royal NavyArmyAirforceMarines, and now Gurkas!

All looking down their sights at them.

WhooHoo!"

........AND..........according to recent, very credible reports.........a veritable army of the meanest, nastiest, hell-bent sons-of-hell mercenaries from the States now hunting bin Laden.....financed by a group of Fortune 500 companies (with one HORRENDOUS bounty for bin Laden's head).

Story has it that they're in-country as of this writing.

My oh my.......Lordie Lordie......it must truly suck to be a follower of bin Laden these days.

It seemed the Gurkas were impressed with the Irish guys being as nutty as they were in battle.

Ah, the Irish!

It is traditional for the two trees to be married during an opening ceremony, both trees being of religious importance. The Pipal is the female tree and is worshipped because Buddha received enlightenment in the shade of one. The Banyan is the male tree and of equal importance because Lord Krishna sheltered under one as a child, and God Vishna was born in the shade of one.

Does their religion contain elements of both Hinduism and Buddhism? I was unaware that orthodox Hinduism held Buddha in any special esteem.

In connection with this, I wonder if those guys want to get a little payback for the Buddha statues the Taliban blasted...

I remember going into banks in Hong Kong long ago. One of these fellas, elderly and long-since retired, would be sitting there drowsily. Seemed to be no security question in such banks. Never read of a British officer who had the opportunity to serve with them who opted for some other assignment. If you want to fight, you go with fighters, and all the real fighters are ready to see if the religiously guided Taliban can actually kick anything around that is not a dog or a woman who doesn't dare resist because if she wins more Taliban will come, and lives where the men are too freaked out to take care of their women and children, so they pretend they don't need to.

The Brits should broadcast to the world that the Gurkhas are REALLY pissed off about the destruction of the Buddhist statues and are seeking revenge.

I realize you guys have a thing for blood, guts, and glory, but these people have a whole other side...very spiritual.

You may or may not like to hear this, but the profession of arms when the cause is just is the most noble of all.

I've read that the Gurkhas have a sentry removal technique with their kukris - it involves a snapping motion that accelerates the speed and multiplies the force - they call it "cleaving the melon." It might make quite an impression on some Talis...

I remember the generals saying the same thing when the British sub sank the Argie cruiser with much loss of life. They accused Thatcher of war crimes. Bunch of strutting peacocks with no concept of what war really is. They thought that since they were really good at "disappearing" unarmed civilians they would have no problem facing a real military.

re : Do you think that Gurkas are afraid of moslem fanatics?

Hell No

During the Falklands they disembarked and went storming up the beach into the hills Argie hunting before they were told to calm down and let everyone else get sorted.

A bloody good bunch of blokes.

A Gurkha "presents arms"

The scariest thing about that guy is that he doesn't look particularly menacing at first glance. Just an oriental kid with a knife... NOT! It would be an easy mistake to underestimate him, and about the last mistake one ever made.

I am sure that they will serve with distinction, as always. The Taliban are so dead it is unbelievable.

Check out the kukris that Cold Steel sells. Look under "Fixed Blade" knives. Just the thing for for self defense if you can't or don't want to use a pistol.
