I recently read a story where lots of people who donated blood since 9/11 have been notified that the blood they gave tested positive for Hepatitus, and they never knew they were infected. The point of the story was that people were giving from the goodnes of their hearts, and it was hard for those taking the blood to later inform them of their situations.

This is VERY irresponsible. I can understand that a lot of people (including gays) want to contribute something to the war effort (or whatever you want to call this crisis) but this - even the mere suggestion that gays are being told and are willing to deliberately contaminate the blood bank supply - can spread even more fear than talk about Taliban germ warfare.

Big difference. HIV is next to impossible to transmit heterosexually (particularly F->M), which is why it is essentially unknown outside those who have sex with gay people or IV drug users (or are in these classes.)

The reason heterosexual guys don't carry HIV is that you essentially can't get it from a woman (and she won't have it unless she is a junkie or the regular partner of one.)
