October 2, 2001 -- Meet the miracle kitty who survived 18 days without food amid the debris of ground zero.

Emergency workers rescued Precious the cat from the debris-covered roof of a damaged apartment building across from the World Trade Center.

Dear OldFriend,

I am having my servant type this as my paws only 'clump' across the keyboard. We cats of the world go anywhere WE decide we want to go. I am an indoor cat but have often escaped from my mistress (you see I have learned to open the screen door). All I do is run around to the front of the house, sit on the front porch and meow.

Cats are tough animals... I have one that has about 6 lives left she lost 3 over the past few years.

1) A dog got a hold of her and bit all the way through her hind leg. She escaped and it healed up fast.

2) She got up into my husbands truck engine one day and her head was caught in the fan belt. (Nope the fan did not get her, but the belt pinched her forehead and tore it up pretty bad.)She healed up and has thinning hair on her forehead.

3) This one truly did kill her but she came back to life.
My husband let the cat out in the morning when he went out to smoke and he forgot to bring her back in. A dog running loose chased her up a 20 foot wood electric pole. The transformer was on top and that is where she stayed. I got up that morning and could not find her.
I went outside and there she was on top of the transformer and just inches under the power lines. I went over to the pole and thought what am I going to do... Just then she humped up in excitement to see me and decided to rub up against the powerline with her nose.
Well she got a major shock and I stood there and watched her cart wheel through the air to the ground. She landed on her side and "was dead". I was crying and decided to slowly lift her up to put her against my body and to take her inside.
When I did this... I reached down to her burnt nose and she woke up and freaked out. She clamped down on my index finger all the way to the bone on both sides. Her jaws were locked and she was having a seizure. I was able to set her down carefully on the ground and pry my finger from her locked jaws.
After that she ran up the deck to the back door and she when into hiding inside the house. Well my finger was in bad shape so I treated it first.(cat bites are a very serious injury)

To shorten up this story... She ended up with burnt paws, a burnt nose, and her worse injury was where the electric had blown out her tail. She had a major burn 2" down from where the tail attaches and the burn was 2" long and all the way down to the tail bone.
I took her to the vet and we decided to keep an eye on it, instead of removing her tail. So I now have a cat that has about 50% feeling in her tail and it hangs in a loop... like a monkeys tail.
The tail burn took over a year to heal over. I had to clean it daily for over year. But she seems to have gained more feeling in it as time goes by. Her tail will never point straight up, but she can flip it around now. Her paws and nose healed up quickly.
The same day this happened I went out there with my sore finger and all and put a aluminum flared flange around it so none of my cats could climb it again if they are left out by mistake.
I have 4 cats in all
I am glad that this tough cat survived that they found. I am sure she will be fine after she heals up.

BTW... I am so glad that I decided not to let the Vet "bob" off her tail as he suggested. She has feeling in it all the way to the tip of it. But she does not like anyone to touch it. I guess after a year of having it cleaned everyday and the pain she went through with it, she is going to be touchy about it. But she is getting better about letting people touch it at any place on it. She has a bald spot about 2" long but most of it is covered by other tail fur.

My goodness, that cat is amazing!!! My cats do things that scare the heck out of me, but NOTHING like your cat. I gotta say I love my cats. Even my husband has grown to adore them, he loves to play "fetch" with them. He throws crumpled cig packs and they chase them, bat them, pick the up in their mouths, and return them to him.

My cats are more like dogs. When we get home, they are sitting at the top of the steps, tails wagging, happy to see us!

Cats only have one life when they enter DH's yard.  I immediately put an end to cats for:

Pissing on my car tires and windshield at night.
Crapping in the flower beds.
Tearing open sacks of garbage.
Spreading mud tracks all over my vehicles.
Fighting and "yeowing" under the house at night.
Bringing fleas into the yard.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY------

For the act of simply being a cat!  In otherwords, a vermin such as rats, mice and cockroaches.
There is only one way to keep them off your property and that is to dispose of them.

BTW.  I have a standing offer with my neighbors to shoot my dog if they ever find it on their property.  As a matter of fact I have offered them the use of my "cat killer" if they don't have a rifle.  Why?  Because you can train a dog to stay in it's own yard so that you can respect your neighbor's privacy and property.

Our cats are precious to us too. I don't understand why some people think that real conservatives don't have cats. We have several, and a huge Rottie, and he's very attached to them too. Very protective of them; if a guest walks towards a cat too quickly, the dog lets out a slow, low, rolling growl.

How wonderful! It's so good to read a happy story of any kind. Kitties can be pretty amazing when it comes to survival.
