Even by her usual incendiary standards, Ann Coulter's response to the terrorist attacks was something of a jaw-dropper.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.
Those words created an uproar at the Web site, which refused to run a follow-up piece in which Coulter singled out what she called "swarthy males." She promptly began bad-mouthing National Review, which responded by axing her as a contributing editor.

Just white shirts and ties I bet. What a bunch of morons they have now become. They have just done more damage with this stupid act of theirs than any good they have done.

forced conversion? sheesh. Back to the dark ages. Heck, we did it to the Japanese: I mean forced conversion from Shintoism to democracy. You remember the first step. In return for saving his own neck, Hirohito recanted his claims to divinity!

Thanks for the image!
By the way.....
Just suppose for a moment that Jonah had written a similar piece and suggested that the US (and Israel) "invade their countries and convert them to Judaism". Now.... how do you suppose that would have been received?

This is absurd for National Review to enact this level of political correctness against Ann Coulter. Clearly, her comments were meant to be somewhat tongue-in-check. But, the PC menatality has infected even National Review. Between this and the idiotic quest to legalize drugs, it's getting hard to call National Review a conservative publication.

For those of us who aren't Christian, the rature is poppycock. Who asked you?!

EVERY, and I mean every, country that there is a large concentration of Arabs there is the resulting decay of society and the terror attacks. Just take a globe and spin it. Every country that has a large Muslim population sooner or later becomes overrun with the terroristic activity. Ours has just caught up with us. I applaud what Ann says...NR is weak-mouthed from the days when Bill Buckley ran the show. She speaks the truth: THIS IS A STRUGGLE BETWEEN WESTERN CIVILIZATION (CHRISTIANITY/JUDAISM-FOR THOSE JUST TUNING IN) AND THE MARCH OF THE INFIDELS (THE MUSLIMS AND ASIAN MONGULS-BACKED BY CHINA). Wake up, before your civilization is sweep away by this bunch.

Ann Coulter is ahead of her time. Shame on National Review! Looks like the PC cops have gained a foothold in the offices of NR.

National Review Online Editor Jonah Goldberg said: "We didn't feel we wanted to be associated with the comments expressed in those two columns. Jonah could not contain his glee when John McCain bashed evangelical Christians during the primaries. The phoney waited until Kristol and a few others also bashed Christians before he rewrote their comments, added his usual cutesy phrases and passed it off as original.

The national review sucks anyway. Ann needed to move her byline from that rag. Her statement was tough and so is she. She was only saying what most are thinking but afraid to say except in private.
To: National Review needs a good FReeping.........

Bill Buckley, God bless him, was my hero for years but he went soft at least 15 years ago.

"
Ahhh, nothing like conservatives fighting with each other. Nice to see that things are starting to get back to normal."
Except that conservatives love Ann and liberal pretenders hate Ann as much as they hate the truth.
To: Ann Coulter
Annie -- that's why we love ya! If the National Review suddenly prefers to be the PC antithesis of what they profess to oppose, then "toodles" to Jonah Goldburg and company.
Of course the gist of your comments flew over people's heads -- seems everyone has their own agenda, eh?
Your point as I see it: If the issue for Terrorist Islam is to shove their religion and ideology down our throats, we can reciprocate -- WITH DUE FORCE, IF we wanted...IF that were like "them."
To: ladyinred
I was about to say something similar. ALL people who become Christians are converted from something else. Conversion does not require force and a true Christian conversion comes about because of the love, mercy and grace of God. Believers who are involved in an unbeliever's conversion are God's instruments as living witnesses through their loving concern, support and prayers. Hardly the idea of 'forced conversion'. Nevertheless, I think Miss Coulter was being sarcastic, wanting to visit upon the Taliban that which they themselves do to those they conquer. She was just kinder by implication, for those who become Believers with Jesus as their Savior would gain Eternal Life, not what the Taliban wishes for us.

Ann is a FReeper, remember that.
OK, so what you're saying is that FReepers are immune from criticism for making really really really stupid statements? Or is it just the famous ones on TV that get that privilige?
To: all
There are some "pansies" over at the National Review. But they are definitely not country-clubbers. They will soon regret this decision. I don't totally agree with Ann's position, but I am sympathetic to her sentiments. I'm also sympathetic to the National Review. I don't think this warrants a cancelation. It does warrant a little "forceful responses."

I don't know if there are any New York Freepers out there who remember Jay diamond from his days on WABC radio, but this thread just reminded me of a great segment he used to have every now and then on his late-night show. He used to do an outstanding imitation of William F. Buckley. The skit would start off with some classical music, then "William Buckley" would come on to introduce his show:
"Good evening ... ladies and gentlemen ... This ... is William F. Buckley ... and welcome ... to tonight's edition ... of FIRING SQUAD."
