[history]
Even by her usual incendiary standards, Ann Coulter's response to the terrorist attacks was something of a jaw-dropper.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.
Those words created an uproar at the Web site, which refused to run a follow-up piece in which Coulter singled out what she called "swarthy males." She promptly began bad-mouthing National Review, which responded by axing her as a contributing editor.

Judging by all the slackjaws cheering on Ann Coulter's idiocy, I think they would.
But go ahead, keep being obnoxious if it inflates your view of your self worth.

I dropped my subscription to NR after nearly 35 years when they went soft a few years back when the Brit Editor left.
To: BoomerBob
NR has only been 'conservative thought' to the RINOS in the northeast. It is primarily 'moderated middle' to this conservative. All in all, a pretty good read, but conservative in total---hah, only to the liberals.

Uh-huh. Didn't Trixie's boy call for conquering Africa a few months ago? How is what Coulter said substantially different? Ann is Christian, Goldberg is Jewish. Any questions?

I might suggest to all that National Review has done more for the Coservative cause than Ann Coulter will ever be able to doAnn Coulter has done more for the "conservative cause" in the past six years than NR has done in the last 46 years. Besides, they are obviously losing their spine and probably don't have much more to contribute. Ann is young and brilliant, and has a long future ahead of her to get even better. Out with the old, in with the new.
I would also submit the following:
Jonah Goldberg is a gifted writer himself. I wonder if he and others at NR used this controversial piece by Ann to get rid of some competition in a smarmy "office politics" - type move. There may have been some rivalry going on.
Also, I think National Review needs Ann a whole lot more than Ann needs National Review, LOL!!!

Christian bigot bashing is very OK. In fact its a moral obligation. Who's the bigot?! Who's judging whose morals?

Here's an example for your consideration: Ronald Reagan credited Buckley and National Review as saving the Republican party following the Goldwater defeat in 1964.
Additionally, a country-club Republican does not describe the many cultural stands that NR has taken from religion to abortion etc.

And Goldberg is a "Girly-Boy." Any other questions?

Ahhh, nothing like conservatives fighting with each other. Nice to see that things are starting to get back to normal.

"National Review went down the drain of Political Correctness quite awhile ago
in my opinion. Firing Ann Coulter is their homage to the "diversity is our strength" crowd. "Ditto that.

I do not blame Ann for beeign fired up in the heat of the moment, but the folks ay the National Review should take a second look at their decision. I think it is a little premature and hasty to dump Ann!!
It is the human factor, not the journalist who made Ann made some off line statements, in light of the tremendous distruction of the Twin Towers.I sure hope that cooler heads will prevail at the National Review head quarters.
