Even by her usual incendiary standards, Ann Coulter's response to the terrorist attacks was something of a jaw-dropper.

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.

Those words created an uproar at the Web site, which refused to run a follow-up piece in which Coulter singled out what she called "swarthy males." She promptly began bad-mouthing National Review, which responded by axing her as a contributing editor.

how do I justify the moniker "left wing" when discussing the National Review

I really can't, it just infuriates me when the truth told bluntly, is received like it is hate. Sugar coated lies are much more damaging than the truth. It seems to me that we are entering dangerous times, when Political Correctness is a nicety that will costs thousands of lives.

I heard Ann and some editor arguing it out today on Hannity's radio show.

I agree with every sentence you wrote.

In 1986 I cancelled my 15 year subscription to NR (for a reason that would be very unpopular on this board). So I have had my disagreements with them--I just came back a few years ago. And, I hate like hell to see Coulter crash and burn. She has so much . . er . . potential, read balls. But she WAS over the top. I have tried to put myself in both her and NR's position. My humble conclusion: a publisher cannot countenance what she said and keeps saying. It's a sad story.

"There are many Christians who are persuaded that the Redemption will be completed in all environments of the world, and that there have to be some souls - they do not know which ones - who will contribute to carrying it out with Christ. But they see this in terms of centuries, many centuries. It would be an eternity, if it were to take place at the rate of their self-giving.

"That was the way you thought, until they came to `wake you up'."

After we go in and kill their leaders, do you think the people in post 31 will be open for conversion? How would you go about it without forcing them? They sure as hell don't look like they'd send out the welcome wagon for missionaries, especially not in the middle of a war. They'd be slaughtered.

RE#88:

Yes, it very well may be Armegeddon. What I see is that
every country with a majority of Muslims, essentially has
a totalitarian regime. Just like Nazism, Facism, Communism,
Pol Pot, Mao, and on and on. These are really police states.

Why? Such regimes cannot tolerate competition. Therefore, they
MUST have some sort of police force to quash any dissent.

If you don't believe this, just answer this question. How
many churches do you see in countries where Islam is the
state religion? (Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen etc. Now how many
mosques do you see in the democratic countries.

BTW is a Muslim one who practices Islam? In other words, do they
mean the same?

As long as you all clean up after yourselves and don't spread any diseases, I guess I can't complain about your mass circle jerks around Ann Coulter's pictures.

Rich Lowry wants to legalize marijuana. So he stated in front of my 15 yr old at the YAF conference this summer. This is your brain on drugs.

Are you going to boycott the Washington Times too? They censored Coulter.

When a non-government entity chooses not to publish something, it isn't censorship. Only when the government, using force of law, prevents publication is it censorship. Wash Times used editorial discretion.

NRO and Goldberg, who is the editor, printed the column. He approved it. For him to go back and now play the wounded martyr is lame. What a hypocrite.

forced conversion? sheesh. Back to the dark ages.

It would bring the islamics up a couple of generations just to get them to the dark ages.

Totally agree. My first reaction when I read this was that, although she's obviously kidding, my own feelings after learning of the death of a good friend in this attack were similar: Kill all their men sell all their women and children into slavery sow their fields with salt Perhaps if Ann had written this, some at NR would have recognized it as the Roman solution to their problem with Carthage, and therefore noticed that what she was saying was, in essence, that this horrific act of war demands not "a reasoned response" but blood vengeance.

So explain again what's wrong with converting them?

It sure worked with the former terrorist known as the Apostle Paul!

I've conceded this point in earlier posts however NR's drug policy is modeled on a Libertarian viewpoint not a Liberal viewpoint (incidentally I don't agree with their stand but they do have an arguable position). NR does represent traditional conservative principles on almost every other issue and that is the point I am trying to illustrate in all my posts.
